I've put in a preorder for now, since if things do pan out as positively as they look so far, this thing will be well worth the money.

@rorie@janman Was the stand that the Deck was on when you were testing the monitor output and the local multiplayer the official dock that's coming out at a later date or was that just a stand they propped it on and hooked up a USB hub?

@butano: it was just a stand to prop up the device. The monitor was coming out of the USB hub on top of the deck.

Always love Jan and Rorie vids. Thanks guys! Really interested to see how this attempt at hardware shakes out for Valve, given their history.

The battery life is my main issue with the device, that and the price for the best model, even though its not that bad if you think of it as a genuine handheld gaming PC, which I guess it really is. I still think its cool, and the beginning to many improved imitators in the future along with Valve's own revision updates.

- Click "manage my DLC" on the game's Steam page.

- A list of all DLC opens with a checkbox next to each.

How could this be handled better? I'm not a Steam fanboy, I'm just baffled by the complaint because the current implementation seems as good as I can imagine it being.

In my experience Steam has always installed all DLC automatically (like I want it to), but I don't know if that's always the case for everybody.

A "minimal install" to save space with lower-res textures and such would be a nice option on a portable device.

That hasn't been the experience for me, Microsoft Flight Simulator X, The Master Chief Collection, the old Age Empires 2 HD (not the recent Enhanced Edition) and Train Simulator did not install all the content by default, forcing me to go to that Manage my DLC screen in order to do that, but also that screen installs each DLC directly when you click the checkmark (with severe load times for each click), instead of - as the checkmarks imply by standard Windows behavior (or as Steam handles it at the purchase confirmation screen) - letting you pick all the items you want do download and then apply/queue them. I think it's a needlessly slow and clumsy process, which they have already handled better in other parts of the UI. I'd like it to be handled similar to the screen you get when you complete a purchase, where you get the list of items with a confirmation button.

Such a relief to see content that doesn't feel like zoom - though yes I want everyone to be safe, but as someone who sits in zoom all day for work it can at times feel like another meeting

@rorie: Hi Rorie & Jan, thanks for doing this. My question is did you guys get to see the difference between the anti-glare etched glass ($649 version) vs. the standard? As someone with a reservation for the $529 (middle tier) option, I'm very torn on whether or not the screen upgrade is worth the extra cost.

Edit: Oh, just got to the part where you guys show the two models. Looks like there's not a huge difference between the two screens?

No, I really didn't notice a huge difference myself!

@rorie@janman Thanks for the super informative, fun video.

Could you tell if the screen had any sort of auto-brightness adjustment when you used it? Or did you see any screen settings for brightness/saturation/contrast in general?

I didn't see any kind of autobrightness switch in the settings but I have a feeling that'll be coming down the line before launch!
