I love the way he delivers the "your soul is mine" line.  It's got this awesome, cheesy, 80's B-movie feel to it.  It just feels so right for this game.

He can only turn into the character he's fighting against.

The reason he lost the ability (once they went 3D) was because the game would have to load in every character before a fight so that he could transform on the fly. In other words you'd have 5 minute load times before every fight.

In Shaolin Monks he could transform mid fight, but you had to wait like a good 15 seconds so that the game could load in whatever character he changed into.

Wow, that totally makes sense. Thanks for the MK trivia. I bet there are balance reasons too, but I'm just glad he's back to his shapeshifting ways.

This makes me happy. Shang Tsung has always been my favourite character, ever since I played him in MK3 (my first SNES fighting game).

@Guyzea:  I believe the real reason Shang Tsung is an old man in this game is because this is an alternate history in the MK universe and this was during the events of the first Mortal Kombat it wasnt till Mortal Kombat 2 that Shao Kahn granted Shang Tsung a second chance and also revitalizing him to his younger self.

Shang Tsung is Lo Pan from Big Trouble in Little China. Everyone in BTLC became an MK character.

Agreed though I think with the krypt there might be more in there like that, or at least the alternate costumes will have different starting lines to them. Game looks amazing & if Shang Tsung can only morph in the people he's fighting it could be that the rest of his attacks are a little more powerful. So glad that this game is coming out this month :).
