    History

Founded originally in 1886 as Dial Square, Arsenal joined the Football League seven years later in 1893 as the first club from the south of England. Since its formation, Arsenal has won major honours in both domestic and European competitions. They have won five league championships as well as two FA Cup trophies. Arsenal won the league and FA Cup double in the 1970-71 season and went on to lift honours throughout the 1990s and 2000s. In the 1990-91 season Arsenal won another title and followed this with an FA Cup and League Cup double in 1993. Arsenal then went on to lift the Cup Winners' Cup in 1994. Arsene Wenger joined the club as a manager in 1996 and has served 14 years with the club making him the second longest serving football manager in English top flight football at present, second only to Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson. Under guidance from Wenger, Arsenal won their second Leagueand Cup double in 1997-98 followed by a third in 2001-02. They won the 2003-04 season having gone 49 games unbeaten throughout the season in the league. The team that accomplished this achievement has since become known as The Invincibles. The last trophies Arsenal Football Club won was the 2003 and 2005 FA Cup trophies. Aresenal were also the UEFAChampions League runners up in 2006.
