Overview
The Wii Zapper is a plastic shell for the
Wii Remote and Nunchuk designed to emulate the shape of a gun while retaining usability. Development on the Zapper began informally when a Nintendo employee working on
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess fabricated a frame for the Wii Remote and Nunchuk out of wires and rubber bands.
Shigeru Miyamoto was initially upset by what appeared to be a waste of time, though when he held it, he found it surprisingly comfortable. When the Zapper was first shown to the public at E3 2006, its shape was similar to that of a
shotgun, but by E3 2007 the design was altered to appear more like a
submachine gun. The Wii Zapper was released in America on November 19, 2007, and was initially supported by
Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles,
Ghost Squad,
Medal of Honor: Heroes 2, and
Link's Crossbow Training.
