Funny how history repeats itself. I'm having similar issues right now. When I test connection, everything looks fine. Then, I get booted as soon as I try to log into my profile.

I was having trouble signing in and got a message saying I should try re-downloading my profile. DO NOT LISTEN TO THAT MESSAGE! I did try re-downloading my profile but about a 1/4 of the way through it said "could not download profile", I went to try signing in again and now my profile no longer exists on the console, I'm guessing I'll be able to get it again once Live's up... Fuck.
Imagine a world where your console is always connected. Always on to receive the newest patches for your most awesome games, you are always ready for the latest action! DRM "just works" because it validates to the Xbox Live servers.
