    Mini Review: AfterBurner returns!

I always threw in a ton of quarters into the original Afterburner wherever it seemed to pop up. Blasting through the sky at supersonic speeds is what it's all about and the arcade sequel to that game kept that most important detail. Now it comes to psn and it's time to see if it lives up to my memories.

As it states in the title this is truly the Climax for afterburner. You only have two different modes in this game. Score Attack where it all about how many points you can get and Arcade mode where a thin a ice plot moves you through the epic confrontations with hundreds of figher jets. Not that it need a better plot since it gives you a reason to blow things up. Before you start you can switch things around in EX options to give you a better lock on or more credits to win etc. Then you pick your figher jet and finally the party begins.

The game play is simply this, move around your jet while firing machine guns and locking on your missiles. Then blow everything out of the sky but in case you need some help you have climax mode. It will slow enemies down and enlarge your missile targeting icon. Do this all together in a epic fashion and your combo meter will never stop. The more your combo goes up the better your point total will be. You can also speed up and slow down your jet but why would you need to put on the breaks? Also DO A BARREL ROLL! It'll save you more times than you ever thought possible. Just time it right or a missile might just hit.

This is how the basic game works all the way through except for the emergency missions. Which are unique little missions that might require you to shoot down a stealth bomber with only your machine guns or even stop ground invasion helicopters before they get a chance to land. So really this sounds pretty basic doesn't it? That's the genius of what this game does. Just plan fun is what you'll get out of this one.

At breakneck speeds you barrel past the landscape barely dodging all missiles fired at you while blowing everything out of the sky. Man just talking about it makes me want to play it some more. I don't want to forget to mention the graphics which are basic and do what you need them to. You might also be disappointed in the time it takes to beat the game. So if your not a score chaser or a 1 credit kind of guy you might want to skip this one.

It's still one of the better arcade games I've seen in a while though. Go out and buy it if your one of those kind of guys or if you just want to have some fun. Worth it 100%

Turn Up the After Burners... 0

After Burner Climax has been around for four years at the arcades marking a return of the franchise from the old Master System and Genesis days for Sega. It was able to bring the franchise to this current generation of games maintaining his simplicity yet brutal difficulty. It is definitely a true Sega arcade game then and even now with its short fun and the ability to play it with a moving seat and a flight stick as a true arcade experience. After a long wait, Climax finally gets released on c...

Fun, Fast and Awesome : The "I Can't Alliterate" Story 0

I didn't even realize that Climax existed until last July when I played it once in an arcade in Vegas. Therefore, my memories are slim. I am quite fond of the original After Burner, but most of that was tied to the arcade-ness of the game, where I got to sit in the chair and have it move and swivel with my actions, making me feel like I was actually flying the plane (I was 10, leave me alone).  The console version of Climax can't really therefore play on any feelings of nostalgia.  Really though...
