While most of the characters important to the plot of Rise of the Argonauts represent or are at least inspired by characters from Greek mythology, Alceme stands out as a new character, wholly invented for the game's story. She is killed in the game's opening cutscene, but flashbacks to Jason's life with her give the player a more fleshed-out understanding of their relationship.
Jason refuses to give up on Alceme, going as far as to refer to her as his wife, not his fiancee, even though she was slain before the wedding ceremony was completed. To constantly remind him of his mission, Jason builds a small shrine to Alceme in his quarters aboard the Argo, and the player can pause there and let Jason reflect on his love.
