Action RPG (Action Role-Playing Game), also known as ARPG, refers to RPGs (role-playing games) that use direct, real-time, reflex-oriented, action combat systems, instead of the more abstract turn-based or menu-based battle systems.
Usually refers to the end of the world.
The Main character Aoto uses a combination drill/sword/energy projector. Tatsumi beats things with an energy blasting hoverboard. Hikari Gojo uses a portable medical kit that fires lasers. Cocona wields an energy blasting hoverboard cut in half with each half in one hand.
A role-playing video game produced by Gust and published by Bandai Namco Games in Japan and by NIS America in North America.
Games that feature an antagonist--someone who opposes the game's protagonist--that is a woman.
hymmnos(also known as Hymnos in the English localizations): A language created by Akira Tsuchiya for the world of Ar tonelico . According to the game world's history, it was formerly a common (in certain areas), spoken language, but has fallen out of use by the time of the main story's events. In modern times, Hymmnos is used only for songs that interface with ancient machinery. It appears to be a distant descendent of English with influences from Japanese, Sanskrit and German. It should be noted that the language places a strong emphasis on emotions so most sentences in the language begin with three words called 'emotions sounds' which indicate the intensity of the emotion, the type of the emotion and the desire for it to last/end or the context in which it is being felt. There is a second dialect to hymmnos known as 'New Testament of Pastalie' which is only used in metafalica. Cocona is the only one to use this dialect in Ar Tonelico 3. A second language was introduced in Qoga, called 'Ar Ciela' and it is not a language used by humans. Ar Ciela is used when the Planet wants to express her will and intention, and also when the Planet wants to craft something (comparable to Earth's activities ranging from weather to volcanic eruption to the cycle of life). In such situations, Ar Ciela is used to materialize those wills of the Planet. Despite the lmited use it gets, Ar Ciela still has a fully fleshed out grammatical structure and lexicon.
The entire concept of diving is for a human to mentally travel to a Reyvateil's cosmosphere, a world inside their minds that represents parts of their personality and subconscious and help them inside their own mind. Doing this helps sort out issues they reyvateil has, causing a paradigm shift and allowing them to create more powerfull song magic. Only the diver recalls what happens in the cosmosphere (as it's more interacting with the subconscious than the actual person) and it is considered extremely bad manners to talk to anyone about what happened in there (even the reyvateil who was dived into will usually prefer not to know). One character can be dived into but does not have a cosmosphere. Instead she has something called a 'binary field' which more closely resembles entering a memory since the diver forgets who they are and takes on the role of a character while they are there. Everyone involved in the binary field will also remember the experience afterward.
Usually found in adventure games, when players combine two or more items to create one or more new items.
Like the games before it, Ar Tonelico starts off with two main heroines, both of whom are fond of the main character and the player must make certain decisions to decide where his affection lies.
The game has a total of 8 endings. One outright bad ending, three normal endings (which are still kind of bad) and four true endings.
The main game is that of a fairly traditional JRPG with an action-RPG battle system but when diving into a character's cosmosphere the game becomes like a Visual Novel.
Several characters in this game have more than one personality inside them. One of the DLCs exists to alter the personality of a major character.
Sony Computer Entertainment's cross-platform game engine designed to make it easier for PC developers to make PS3 games. It is used in many notable games such as flower and Shatter.
Only for the Playstation 3
While all games on PlayStation 3 (2009 onwards) and later consoles have trophies, only games deemed large enough get to have the coveted Platinum Trophy for earning every Trophy in the base game.
Trophies are an incentive-based system for the completion of various objective in PS3, Vita, and PS4 titles.
In addition to the two main heroines there are two additional characters who are potential love interests as long as the main character hasn't been dedicated to one of the two main girls the entire time.
A key mechanic to the battle system is called 'purging' wherein the heroine who is singing in the battle will lose clothing to increase their effectiveness. Despite being obvious fanservice it is at least justified in-universe in that for the two main heroines, the more skin they have exposed, the more symphonic energy they can draw into themselves.
A widely popular music style, originating from a fusion of blues, R&B, country, and jazz. Includes sub-genres such as punk, heavy metal, synth rock, and pop rock, among others.
Classic form of numbering that gives things a more regal feel.
Not the intial goal but that's what they end up trying to do.
The Cosmospheres take on a form very similar to that of a visual novel.
