Assassin's Creed: Revelations Shows Up On Facebook, Suddenly Disappears

Let the speculation on whatever crazy plot twist is coming this time begin.

Who needs magazine covers anymore? We have Facebook! Well, unless someone accidentally posts something to Facebook early, which appears to be the case with the next Assassin's Creed game.

The intrepid folks at NeoGAF--specifically, Enosh--screen captured what appears to be the first details on Assassin's Creed: Revelations. The links show a viral marketing campaign designed to unlock information on Revelations, which, despite my joke, is probably tied to an impending magazine cover.

Naturally, everything disappeared just as quickly as it arrived. What's Ubisoft have to say?

"No comment," said a company spokesperson.

Luckily, we have Assassin's Creed production manager Azaïzia Aymar answering questions about this on Twitter. Aymar isn't being secretive whatsoever, so it's possible the Facebook marketing only went live a little too early. If everything comes back online and your "Likes" are needed, I'll make sure and update.

Ubisoft already said another major Assassin's Creed was coming this year, though it's unclear whether we should be expecting another off-shoot like Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood or a proper sequel. There is no three to be found here, though, suggesting the wait for that one is a little bit farther down the line.

Despite having no details on what this game will be I'm still insanely excited. Every entry into the franchise thus far has been superb although I wish they would go back to having a structure more similar to the original AC, it needed refinement, not disposal.

Assassin's Creed is avoiding being run into the ground because they're clearly making it their top priority and giving it the resources it needs.  Also (and probably more importantly) because there aren't two or three other companies out there just putting out blatant AC clones.

The market can probably handle one AC game a year because there's still not a whole lot out there like it.  It's when you end up with a handful of very similar games coming out per year that franchises start to suffer for it.  The mainstream audience gets confused about what they're supposed to be buying, and people buying all of them just get burned out on it.

I concur as a consumer. Yet as someone interested in cataloguing video game history, and making far too much ado about understanding canonical timelines, it drives me up the freaking wall.

Also I love that someone beat Patrick to creating a new game page. Better luck next time bro. ;)

"
Climbing: slow and sluggish, when I expected it to be quick like Infamous or flashy like PoP 08.Combat: slow and sluggish, when I want either responsive and challenging like Ninja Gaiden or slow and flashy like PoP 08.Story: I tried but I could not give a shit, sorry, and it didn't seem like Ubisoft could either. It's might not help that I didn't play/compare it to AC1, which is supposedly a bigger shit. Such is the human mind. "

Hope Ubisoft is making ACIII,Desmond's story and the trilogy needs to be wrapped up.If it's a spin-off it should be either about Altair or a completely different team of Assassin's not involved with Desmond.

They did just start the campaign Patrick, i'm not sure if you haven't seen it back up or not but it has officially gone up.  http://www.facebook.com/assassinscreed?sk=app_150031305061905 It's asking to spread the word to reveal it and it has an activity meter to gauge how much it has been spread. It's currently at 2%

I hope this has a new setting and main character. Don't get me wrong, I love Italy and Ezio, but after two big games in that era I think it's time to move on. I also hope they start dealing with some of the threads in this crazy story they're weaving (this is called Revelations, so hopefully that's the case). There are lots of little details regarding the overall AC universe in the games if you're looking for them, which I really like, but I feel they're being a bit too ambiguous with the direction of a lot of their story threads. I know they have to save some of those reveals for AC3, but I have so many questions about what is going on in the overall AC story arc and I really would like them to start answering some of them.

Not shocked really, they did say that there would be some announcement in May. Though I think a lot of fans were predicticting it to be Assassin's Creed 3 then another spin-off.

Any Assassin's Creed is good in my book. How about some sort of return with Altair?

Revelations in 2011, AC3 in 2012 to coincide with the timeline of Desmond -- makes pretty good sense for marketing and hype (so long as Revelations is good)

Current rumours seem to think it will either be focused around Altair or one of his sons in Asia, the idea being a sequel to AC1 spin off.

I watched a 20 second teaser on GT and for a split second there was some Arabic writing, if you pause just right you can read it backwards: AlTaïr Ibn La Ahad.

Gonna put my money on it being set in AC1's universe.

I just hope that in the new game there are actual story revelations outside the animus that aren't just bookended at the start and end of the game. I know that playing outside the animus sucks, but it doesn't mean there can't be cutscenes to keep me interested.

Well AC1 was good in terms of concept, but bad in terms of putting that concept into actual practicality.

And while I did personally like what it did I think that put simply it could've been much, much, much better. As in AC2 better.

So I also support the advice of starting the series from AC2, because not everybody has the time to play every game, so the games do play should be really good, and really fun/emersive or both.

I enjoyed AC1 but I'd kill a man before re-playing it, where as I'd gladly re-play AC2 etc. AC1 would be ok to go through and brut force, only doing the main story stuff, but still.. it's a lot of suffering just for a story that I honestly think isn't good enough to justify the repetition you need to do in the actual gameplay.

Oh boy THIS! When I played AC2 i was left a tiny bit disappointed. I couldn't understand why, but thought it was probably because of the setting. Even though when I look back now I think of AC2 as one of my favorite games, and respect what they've done with it, it doesn't beat my love for AC1.
