Brothers In Arms: Furious 4 Isn't Canceled, Despite What You May Have Heard

Randy Pitchford makes clear that the spree-killing World War II shooter is still in development, and undergoing changes.

There's a drink called the Flaming Nazi already, right? Someone has to have invented that.

Hey, remember when Gearbox announced that it was working on a new Brothers In Arms game? Albeit one that looked a good deal more cartoonish and gun crazy than previous versions? You'd be forgiven if you didn't, since the first and only trailer for the game debuted last E3 (as in 2011), and Gearbox has gone on to say exactly nothing about the game since then. Given its absence at this year's E3, many assumed that Gearbox had simply quietly shelved the project while focusing on Borderlands 2 and Aliens: Colonial Marines. Turns out that's not true.

Gearbox head Randy Pitchford told CVG in a recent interview that Brothers In Arms: Furious 4 is most definitely in continued development, and "still evolving."

"One of the reasons why we're not talking about it now is that it's evolving and we need to make further changes before we can start talking about it," he said.

The original trailer showed a version of Brothers In Arms that looked like a cross-breeding of Left 4 Dead, Team Fortress 2, and Inglourious Basterds (second reference today!). What, exactly, Furious 4 has evolved into, Pitchford wouldn't say. He was also clear that we won't be hearing anything about Furious 4 for a little while, or at least not until Borderlands 2 ships this September.

But at least you can rest easy knowing the game hasn't disappeared entirely. Assuming you were ever worried about that to begin with.

Anything that Gearbox does is God.

Except Duke Nukem Forever, you mean.

I choose to ignore that such a thing came out of that studio.

Except it really didn't. They put a quick spitshine on it before they sent it off.

Anyways, it sounds like they rebooted Furious 4. Usually when it shows once to a severe lukewarm presence and goes missing the following years, it's usually being heavily retooled.

Maybe that strategy game will be good but if it's just a Star Craft style game I doubt it. My dream is for it to be something like X-Com or Jagged Alliance.

You mean the Alien RPG? That got cancelled a long time ago.

Supposedly there was an Alien strategy title in development at Creative Assembly.
