Bulletstorm "Gun Sonata" DLC Detailed

New maps! Due out this Spring! Already!

Hold on to that copy of Bulletstorm--publisher Epic Games and developer People Can Fly have some DLC in the works. In fact, the duo has already detailed the first bit DLC, a joint called “Gun Sonata.” In a nutshell, it’s a $10, five-map download that’ll hit PSN, XBLM, and PC later this spring.

Three of those maps, the lovely Sewers of Stygia, Hotel Elysium, and Villa, are exclusive to Anarchy mode. If you're not familiar with the game, Anarchy is basically Bulletstorm's answer to Gears of War's Horde mode. Up to four players work together (and for themselves) as they attempt to reach specific score thresholds. The twist, here, is the choice of what you do with your spoils: score points for personal upgrades or for the round progression.

The other two maps, Crash Site and Guns of Stygia, are Echo mode maps. You may remember this mode from the game's demo--it’s all about reaching the highest score possible in one-off single-player challenge levels. Epic shot over some descriptions of these two maps specifically, adding that Crash Site is where “soldiers must deal with ramifications of their crashed ship,” and that Guns of Stygia is a place where a “captive commando escapes from an enemy prison.”

In addition to these maps, Gun Sonata will also bring two Leash enhancements: the Pulp and the Flamingo. Epic isn’t getting specific about these quite yet, but I imagine that you already get the idea what these might be.

Who's enjoying Bulletstorm so far, and who's ready to pony up for some new maps?

I'm excited for this DLC. Loving the game so far and by the time this comes out, I'll probably be getting bored with the stuff on the disc.

Great! So they're working to provide the rest of the content that I paid for in this fairly short $65 game?

Oh, wait, you mean they're charging *another* $10 for it?!

No thanks. Fun game, but damn short.
It may be short but the game is focused on points so go ahead and beat your highscore! :D

I'm not a fan of developers announcing DLC the day the game ships. I know they've had the game "Content locked" for a while, but it seems so cheap.

Ten dollars is a bit expensive for what they're offering.

Thanks, but no thanks.

Atleast they waited until AFTER the game was released before any DLC news.

I won't buy any DLC for this game unless its an expansion to the campaign. Eachoes is fun, but it already has so many maps I don't need an extra 3 for 20 bucks. So give me some more campaign stuff, because its my favorite thing about the game.

Like Jeff said on one of the Bombcasts. The game has been done for months and there has probably been some people working on the game that have been done for even longer than that. Those people aren't going to sit around and do nothing, they probably started working on the DLC right when their job was done in the initial game.
            "

Quoting for emphasis. This is the exact reason why you're seeing tons of day 1 DLC.
Also this early DLC has likely kept people can fly from sacking the art and design staff while the programmers start working on the next game.

I'm not sure about $10, but I'd definitely be interested in more Echo maps.

And this is a good point, nor do I dispute it. But I do believe there are other factors involved, as monetary and more as Jeff's podcast statement(I missed that statement). I see it also as striking while the iron is hot, though I am beginning to wonder if the dlc is too close to the main effort sometimes. However I am partial to single player ,and I'm sure that affects my perception. I am of course thinking of Dead space 2 , but hey, maybe it is for the best. The staff like you say is there, I do wonder about fatigue...

Games don't stay popular for very long.  The window to sell DLC isn't huge.  Developers are right to have them developed and ready in that brief window.   Most games are sold in the first month.  Seems to reason that most DLC will do the best around then too.

For the record, I also don't care if DLC comes locked up on a disk.  If I wasn't told it would be ion the disk, I don't care if it's unplayable.  Nobody pretends the DLC price has anything to do with the cost of distributing it to me.

I'm down for more.  Would like to see some other weapons and skill shots though.  Would be nice to have a mode where you have access to all weapons from the start of the campaign too, not that you need it but just to destroy even more from the get go.

Game's pretty solid. Juvenile, but solid. Seems like the type of thing I'll keep playing for some time (at least the echoes and horde mode). After a month or two,new DLC will be a welcome treat.
