Capcom Announces Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds

Spring 2011 release date set for Capcom's next comic book crossover.

Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds has been formally announced and confirmed as a Spring 2011 release on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The game will be running on a version of Capcom's MT Framework engine, which also powered Resident Evil 5 and Lost Planet 2.

This may surprise some folks, as you might expect a new Capcom fighting game to run on the same engine technology that powered its last big fighting game, Street Fighter IV, or perhaps its most-recent versus series game, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. After talking with a few different Capcom representatives, it sounds like MT Framework is perfectly capable of displaying the fast-moving action that versus series fans would expect.

A trailer was also unveiled. Take a look at it below. Assembled media at Capcom's annual "Captivate" event were told that this trailer was using the same models that will be used in the game itself, though obviously it will look more like a traditional fighting game in its presentation.

No one was really too willing to go in-depth on how the fighting system will operate, other than to say that it won't just use the same system from Tatsunoko vs. Capcom (even though that bit at the end of the trailer sure looks familiar). The game will feature over 30 characters and will feature three-on-three tag battles, just like Marvel vs. Capcom 2 did. In case the above trailer doesn't spell it out enough for you, the game will utilize polygonal characters and backgrounds. The game, however, will take place on a 2D plane.

The art style in MVC3 is described as a "living comic book," with touches throughout that work towards that goal. Shaders (seen in the trailer) will be employed to achieve this goal, along with more integrated use of the Marvel side's catchphrases, comic book-style openings and endings, and so on.

The game's roster hasn't been announced beyond the characters seen in the trailer. In case you're reading from somewhere that doesn't support Flash, that roster currently includes...

Redfield is the only true newcomer on this list, and he's shown in his Resident Evil 5-era attire. The game will contain some form of online play, but the details on modes and so on aren't available at this time.

There really aren't many more hard details out there about the game, but considering it's still a year away, that's to be expected. Speaking of expectations, I'd expect we'll hear more about Marvel vs. Capcom 3 at E3 in June, and perhaps again at San Diego Comic-Con. Jeff Gerstmann on Google+

Needs more Wesker.

The first thing I saw when I woke up this morning.

All I need is B.B Hood to return, and I'm 100% on board (who am I kidding, I already am).

Strider Hiryu better be in MvC3.

This had crossed my mind as well, I believe it is. New styles for all of the Darkstalkers who make it into this game, whoo!

i shall repeat my previous statement of

WHERE YO CURLEH MUSTACHE AT

Wouldn't it be crazy if Will from DV was in here. Nolan North in a fighting game. Consider it.

So Chris will stop to shoot, right?

Is this some kind of 4/20 joke or something.  Hope not, this just made my day.

A headbutt from a dude with an adamantium skull...
Ouch!
Also, Morrigan is as enticing as always.

I'm buying this.

The initials of the sub-title are quite ironic :p Marvel vs Capcom 3: FTW! Can't wait!

Duuuuuuuuuuuude I am in total shock right now.

Edited by Rhaknar

even tho nobody actually cried about this here yet, its bound to happen... the whole "around 30 characters" thing. After the initial shock, its pretty much not only expected but understandable. The only reason MvC2 had so many characters (54) was because it re-used most of its sprites (including special moves and what not) from old games. With a whole new engine, expecting 50+ characters was just a dream.

Not only that, and please don't take this peronally if you enjoy these characters in MvC2, but 2 wolverines for example? Was that needed. Ryu, Ken, Akuma AND Dan... 4 shotos in a vs game, isn't 1 enough? Guile AND Charlie? Ironman and War Machine? Megaman was fine, but Roll and especially Servobot? Stuff like that really bloated the MvC2 roster to be fair, and if there are around 30-ish different characters, I will be more than fine with that.

oh btw check out this GIGANTIC RESOLUTION picture, and rejoice, for its 99.99999999999999999999% confirmed that Deadpool and Dante (or Nero?) are in the game:

Lower left corner, that IS deadpool, I would bet good money on it. Same goes for Dante on the right side, next to Chris. You can really tell with the huge picture.

@Rhaknar:  that wolverine looks like greg lands work.... oh sweet jesus tell me he is no way involved in this game....(i apologise to whatever artist drew that if it is infact not lands work)

Awesome! Looks like they'll nail the marvel style. That MT framework engine really does render stylized comic models superbly.

Posted by nick_verissimo

Okay, I could get behind this.  Hopefully they do show more at E3 because I'm definitely interested to see the game running.

Edited by Onigenko

Maybe the roster will this time be balanced better, as that would make up for the character amount easily.

now that i think about it there was Super Puzzle Fighter.

Super Street Fighter IV and Marvel vs. Capcom 3... I'm just going to give Capcom my bank account number.

I'd prefer to actually see real gameplay footage, but I suppose the SFIV original trailer did give a fairly good idea of what the game was actually going to look like...

Spider-Man better be in there, otherwise it's a no-buy for me. But they would be fools not to include him.

I can see the following in the silhouettes:

(Right Side)
-Dr. Doom (possibly)
-Dante/Nero
-Rad Spencer (possibly)
-Captain America
-Felicia

(Left Side)
-Super Skrull
-Akuma
-??? Elektra?
-Deadpool
-Chun Li

I think it's safe to say that this roster will explode before release. I can't see an MvC title without Spider-Man or Zangeif.

Super Skrull is almost a given indeed, and I think it could be a REALLY interesting character, with a million moves heh.

Wow.  1 year away.

I'm sure the story line will be absolutely solid. Plenty of time to polish that up.

1 fighting game a year (well, from Capcom at least) is more than enough, the last thing they want to do is go full hog again and flow the market with fights like 10 years ago. Darkstalkers 4 for 2012? :p

Thats not Akuma, I think that is Mephisto.

Been wanting this for a long time.  And if Dante and Blade aren't in, I'll be disappointed.  I'll still want it, but I want those two to be in.
