Duke Nukem Forever Demo Drops June 3 (If You Pre-Order)

Duke Nukem Forever is still a thing and it's a thing that is apparently actually happening.

Apparently.

Gearbox Software, the studio that picked up the pieces after 3D Realms imploded, has been promising a Duke Nukem Forever demo for a while now, and finally announced the details.

The playable demo finally arrives on June 3 but only if you've pre-ordered the game, which grants you access to what the studio is calling "The First Access Club." Here in the US, Amazon and GameStop are the retailers handing out the codes needed to be first in line for Duke Nukem Forever's demo.

In all likelyhood the demo will become available for everyone else soon after. I've pinged the game's publisher, 2K Games, to find our when, if and how that will happen.

They should honestly open this up to everyone, what good does that bullshit do?

How effective will this demo be if you can only play it AFTER buying the game?

This demo is going to make some people very happy.

How fucking stupid. We should've had this demo MONTHS AGO. I reserved the "Balls of Steel Ed" & I'm happy I did. But Gearbox dropped the ball on the "First Bullshit Club".

I think they've lost sight of what a demo is.

I feel like I have to buy Duke Nukem just for historical sake.

So there's a demo if you own the game? What's the point. The game looks bad, but I'm willing to give it a shot - but now I'll have to wait till after the game comes out to see if I want it, and they lose their "DAY ONE SALESSSSS"

This logic still makes no sense. How has someone not figured this out yet? I mean this is a clear "Yo dawg..." game in a game type of logic.

I do not see the sense of this,either. And I do not mindlessly bet on anybody, at least when it really isn't funny any more to do so. I already have a fair idea how this game is going to be.

Still I, unless they really crap it up, will get this game.

It's not just for pre-orders. If you bought the GOTY edition of Borderlands and used the First Access code included with it you also get the demo the same day.

that just defeats the whole purpose of the demo, i mean shouldn't demo be out there so it kinda can convince people who're on the fence to like it and buy it?

And here I thought it was for the Borderlands GOTY users ONLY but hey! Guess it was to be expected they would say eff that to that idea in the end.

Please add that you can get access to the demo if you own the Borderlands GOTY edition. It's not just pre-order, because that would be stupid. They want people to actually try this game.

Also, I think it's timed exclusive, and on the launch of the game the demo will be released. They said that when they first announced it would be available through the Borderlands GOTY.

It's so dumb why you give the demo to people who have already preordered the game..... They are already buying it... You should be going after those who may only purchase after trying the game

I'm glad Gearbox worked out the kerfuffle with steam, and you can preorder it there. I wasn't going to pre-order until it came to steam.

I am no marketing genius but I would think that you would want to get out the demo to the most amount of people possible. I could see restricting a beta for pre-orders but a demo is just foolish.

Does this apply if you've pre-ordered through Amazon, or do I have to walk into the perpetual garbage heap that is GameStop and hand them my cash? Because that second one isn't going to happen.

You also get access if you bought Borderlands on the PC. The CD Key provided in Steam is actually the Duke Nukem First Access code. Just right click on Borderlands in your Steam library, choose "View game CD key" and then head over the the Duke site. This is not the Game of the Year edition only; it is for all copies of Borderlands purchased through Steam, and possibly other services.

Also, if you have the Game of the Year edition of Borderlands, you have a code.

It's not just for pre-orders. If you bought the GOTY edition of Borderlands and used the First Access code included with it you also get the demo the same day.

Good thing I bought Borderlands on steam (which gets you the key GOTY Edition or no) :)

Man, this is a game that I'm on the brink about. I would love to play a demo in order to see if I want to lay down sixty dollars, not the other way around...

Man that DNF logo from 2001 was badass. The new one is so goddamn boring.

Also the whole preorder demo thing is years-old at this point. People who are hyped enough to preorder get to play it sooner, and people who want to try it can get it a few weeks later. Perfectly rational.

How to get a First Access code: Do one of the following:

1. Own Borderlands on Steam before the First Access scheme was announced.
2. Buy Borderlands GotY Edition for any format.
3. Pre-order Duke Nukem Forever.

If it were a multiplayer demo, that would be worth it.  I want to see this multiplayer that has everyone up on their soapboxes.

it's really sad how people are so excited for such an overtly sexist game. duke nukem 3d was sexist but the degree of difference between the two titles is staggering. at least duke 3d was toned down aside from the occasional stripper, it was more about shooting aliens. this game seems entirely devoted to enforcing hateful ideas about women in lieu of actual creativity or good gameplay/plot ideas. i can't believe that in this day and age gearbox finds it acceptable to create a game that is so patently offensive towards women and seems so proud of themselves about it. i've completely lost any respect for them and won't be purchasing any of their products. neither should any of you.
