Excite Truck Devs "Nearly Finished" With Next Wii Project

Monster Games profiled in "local game dev makes good" story, speculation ensues.

Not as exciting as its title led me to be believe.
Not as exciting as its title led me to be believe.
The bloodhounds on the NeoGAF boards dug up a blog focused on Northfield, MN, which ran a basic profile on the 20 game developers working at Monster Games. Monster, as you may remember, is the house that gave us Excite Truck back at the Wii's launch.

Apparently the team is "nearly finished" with its next project for Nintendo. But what is that project? Yeah, no idea. Here's what the original story has to say about keeping secrets:
Right now, the 20 employees at Monster Games are working on a top-secret video game for Nintendo. They’ve worked on it for two years and are nearly finished. The process is so private the designers must darken their monitors when the bottled-water deliveryman enters the office.

I'm having trouble pegging this as a simple sequel to Excite Truck. That probably wouldn't take two years and probably wouldn't need to be so hush-hush... though maybe they just like the super spy nature of keeping their water guy in the dark. About a year ago, the long-gone rumor blog run by Surfer Girl (we miss you!) posted an unsubstantiated bit claiming that this game wasn't Excite Truck 2, and that it might be an F-Zero sequel. Now that seems like something that might take a couple of years to get right, and something worth keeping secret.

Fingers crossed over here, as I would be interested to see an F-Zero sequel right about now. Or, I guess, sometime next year, which is probably when all of us--including the water dude--will get to see the fruit of Monster's labor.

I loved the original F-Zero SNES game. It was mad hard though and unfinishable, although it didn;t stop me trying. I'd say best use of Mode 7 in a SNES game.

FZERO is going nowhere, Nintendo will likely keep it in-house as Miyamoto was displeased with SEGA's effort on Gamecube. Despite many fans of it, including I.

I really liked Excite Truck and I wouldn't mind seeing an improved sequel with Wi-Fi and better multiplayer options too.

It really would be nice to see a new F Zero but id really prefer to see it internally developed by Nintendo, as much as i liked Segas take on it, it just wasnt anywhere near as good as the N64 game.  Who knows, maybe they will do a retro studios and pull out a great game that everyone thought would fail.

Water dudes are one of the chief vehicles of industrial espionage.  It's a well known fact.

I really liked the Sega's F-Zero so I would so much want to see a new F-Zero game. Actually why would they keep so quiet about an Exite Truck sequel? I think it will be something much cooler than that. Now that I think of it, it might be an F-Zero since Exite Truck sequel would have been revealed already by now. But now that I think of it a bit more, I might not want to see a F-Zero sequel made by Exite Truck makers...

If Toshihiro Nagoshi isn't involved with this new F-Zero game... Do. Not. Want.

F-Zero for the Wii would rock as I've had quite enough of crappy Mario Kart Wii.

IMO, Excite Truck overall was just ok, but I thought the controls were spot on. Hope this is good.

If it is F-Zero it better have 30-player online matches :)

This is just like how Sony tried to make up for the lackluster MotorStorm game. 2nd times a charm!

Two words about Excite truck:

FALSE ADVERTISING.
"There is nothing exciting about this game. At all. EVER."
