Metro 2034 Is Coming And Will Be In 3D

One year later, one more dimension.

In Soviet Russia, the mines come to you.
In Soviet Russia, the mines come to you.

A wise-ish man would start ammunition and shield teething in the near future, as he readies to take another dip in the post-apocalyptic waste pool. It might sting and suck at first, but it'll serve you well when you're forced to fight within the battered, haunted, and surely dismal underground of Metro 2034.

THQ has given the nod to 4A Games, and is set to publish a follow-up to Metro 2033, a fantastically gloomy FPS that featured a host of abnormal mechanics and forced more than a fair share of near-chest-eruption-via-attrition moments.

News of this sequel comes from THQ executive Danny Bilson during a sidebar that started with Bilson boasting about NVIDIA demoing Metro 2033 in 3D. One version of Metro 2034 will, as you may have just surmised, will be presented in 3D.

"We're going to be doing a 3D version of that on Metro 2034--the sequel. And there will be some engineering costs there, but that's in our lowest centre in the world. Those games are unbelievably reasonable; they're built in Kiev," Bilson told CVG in his interview with the publication.

 Two men, one gas mask.
 Two men, one gas mask.

== TEASER ==Metro 2033 featured an interesting HUD-less presentation that had you to using the protagonist's hands and wrists to see objectives, monitor filter time, or to take a quick peek at ammo type or levels. This is in addition to its field-of-view restricting gas masks and other such elements. 3D, in my mind, could theoretically enhance these components, as well as provide a scare or two when a beasty comes out to play in the wastelands.

Bilson didn't get into specifics, much less a release date. Chances are we won't hear much about Metro 2034 in the near future--dude is talking about the game mad early, in a similar scenario to what's happening with Darksiders 2.

I've been watching an on-going Let's Play of Metro 2033, because I'll never play it myself. All I can say is, that game can be quite ruthless, you will die, A LOT.

At times it was a bit rough around the collar, but I enjoyed it. Seems a bit weird that they would release this on the PS3 for 3D but not the original game since I presume the story carries on from its outcome.

Then again maybe they gonna do some fancy 3d stuff on the 360.

Metro 2033 was alright, it was a competent shooter but there were a few things I didn't like such as gun accuracy, A.I. and escorting missions that had me restarting over and over again. The atmosphere was good though. I'm hoping 2034 will be a better shooter with a lot more improvements.

I don't care much about the 3D, it only makes me dizzy. But the game.... I'm really excited about it, played through the first one and it was great. Hopefully the sequel will entertain me as much as the old one, or maybe even more.

What movie?  It really depends on the movie if you want to be impressed.  By all accounts Avatar and How to Train Your Dragon are the only ones to have done it well so far. "
It really depends on your standards for being impressed.  Avatar and How to Train Your Dragon are most definitely not the "only ones to have done it well."  The first film I've seen that really did it correctly was Pixar's Up.  Totally restrained, very subtly applied and that's why it worked.  The same is true for Avatar, though I get the feeling that a lot of people miss the reason it worked so well there because it's the most out of control animated spectacle ever produced.

I'm curious what people who aren't impressed by subtle, convincing depth in movies are looking for from such films.  When done well it looks better than the same film in 2D so what's not to like about it?  At least when it comes to movies with their inexpensive, light-weight polarized lenses.  I'm definitely not in the camp advocating active shutter.  That shit is way too expensive and gives an unacceptably large portion of the population headaches.

And as a random side note on the future of 3D films, we might also finally get actresses who don't have to starve themselves to look thin on camera and the ones who already have might need to eat a cheeseburger and drink a few beers so as not to creep out the audience.

I better not be playing as Artyom because he died in the book Metro 2033, Of course he didnt save the dark ones in the book either...

SPOILER ALTERT

Artyom is contacted by the dark ones throughout the game because all they want is peace with their human brothers and sisters, twords the end of the game you kill one and he says "He does not understand, we only desire peace." If the player shoots the missle launch system then you get the good ending, if the player does not you get the bad ending. The good ending is the ending that most closly reflects the book.

Not anything new for PC gamers. I just finished up Metro 2033 in 3D,  the game engine already works flawlessly with nvidia 3D vision.

Brad is totaly right in his assumption.  Looking through the gas mask, the dark long corridors, laser sighted weapons,  no HUD, and horror atmosphere make it the best 3D game I've played so far. (batman AA close 2nd, Bad Company 2 3rd).   Haters gonna hate, but 3D is a perfect fit for these horror, tense, atmospheric games.

Yes, if used well in the right games, 3d can be good. I think Split/Second would also be great in 3d

I wonder when the 3D bandwagon is going to crash and burn.

Yeah racing is another good game type for 3D.   Being a early 3D adopter I've gotten a good taste for what works and what doesn't.   I crank the 3D depth up to the max in atmospheric games, and racing.  But lower it or even turn it off if I play something menu heavy or competitive.    Thats the big thing people tend to over look, just like the 3DS you can dial the effect down or even turn it off at any point.  Plus on PC you even have control of convergence letting you deceid how much pop out vs in there is.   I hate pop out, so I set it so everything goes into the screen, making my TV more like a window into the game world.

My feelings exactly. "
I agree, however, I feel that this game, in its atmospheric glory, could really benefit from 3D.  Not that I'll play it in 3D though, don't have the cash for that.
