Midnight in LA

Rockstar releases a new trailer for Midnight Club: Los Angeles.

Those crazy Kotaku kids ran a trailer for Midnight Club: Los Angeles today that caught my eye. Thought it might be worth sharing with ya, in case you haven't seen it yet. Take a look:

...so does any of that strike you as gameplay? Or just fancy-schmancy pre-rendered business? I actually haven't seen much of the game for myself yet. Seems like Rockstar would have to come up with some kind of hook for the game, since I don't know that just having an open-world, checkpoint-based racing game is enough in this age of... well, this age of Burnout Paradise, I guess. A realistic Los Angeles might do the trick.

Either way, neat-looking cockpit view stuff in the trailer. What do you think?

[UPDATE] Turns out that trailer is from, like, November or something. My November was a little busy, so that's the first time I've seen it. Anyways, here's the new trailer that those Rockstar cats put out a little more recently:

Could be good, we'll have to wait and see. I only played a bit of the Midnight club series of games, and I didn't like it that much, but I could give it a second chance.

Guys, this isn't a new trailer. It's old. Hella old. As in August 22nd, 2007 old.

That being said, I'm so damn excited for this game. Went and pre-ordered it minutes after that trailer was released. I've loved every iteration of the series since the very first one, I can't wait for LA to be released.

And like I commented on Kotaku, the real news is here folks: New trailers, info and screens. That is where you'll find the new "Hollywood" trailer.

Also, if anyone is interested, the track is "Idealistic" by Digitalism. From what the trailers have shown so far, the game's soundtrack is shaping up to be as good as the previous games. Mmm... electronica.

OK that trailer on the Midnight Club website looks a lot better. A lot more spit and polish on it. But I'm still gonna reserve judgement till I play a demo at least.

They're going to have to try hard not to borrow from themselves on this one.

Looks like gameplay to me, or at least the majority of it does. Wouldn't surprise me if it actually did look like that.

I more or less enjoyed MC3.  The only thing I didn't like is that I had no idea where to go in the city and I keep overshooting turns.

I love the Midnight Club series, Midnight Club: Two was probably one of my favorite games. I think the Burnout series even borrowed heavly from Midnight Club. if you really think about it, Midnight Club was the last generation's Burnout Paradise, And eventhough it was going head to head with both NFS and Burnout, it managed to hold its own, which is pretty commendable.

I really hope Midnight Club:LA doesn't dissapoint because it's on my most anticipated games list!

The arms in the cockpit view looked pretty stiff, but I've enjoyed the past Midnight Club games.

In the trailer that aurahack linked to, the game looks a hell of a lot more polished.  There is still some strange feeling of been there done that and it looked better stemming  from Burnout Paradise.  I know the original Midnight Clubs sort of pioneered the idea, but Paradise still looks better to me than these trailers.  Hopefully the single-player characters are interesting as hell or the online is really good.  I'll have to wait to play it before I can say much more.

Also, the graphics look in-game. I think it's probably using the GTAIV engine; So I wouldn't be surprised if they re-use some of the modeled city in an upcoming GTAIV expansion/downloadable content.

Heh, priceless. Anyway, looks like in-game RAGE to me, and it channels LA reasonably well, which is to say that it reminds me of that place where I never want to live again. If it plays like DUB, I'm sold.

This looks like the Need for Speed I've been wanting EA to make ever since Test Drive Unlimited. Just needs to have non-shitty physics and ditch the stupid story and we're all good. "WHEY IS YUO HER??!? I ARE HEAR TOO REIS CAHRS!!11 MAN!"

Stories have no place in racing games. Unless it's Razor style. Codemasters did that whole story thing ages ago already and failed miserably. Waste of resources. A little less conversation, a little more action please.

I've played the hell out of all the Midnight Club games, and can't wait to get my online on when it comes out. The map of L.A. that's at the end of the newer trailer looks pretty similar to the map of L.A. in Midnight Club 2. I'm glad they kept the mountain roads.

Everything's better than GRID. Codemasters needs to reeducate the aliens who programmed the physics. On this planet there are things like friction and inertia.

burnout paradise is fine. but i loved midnight club 3 so this is very promising. Rockstar has been doing open world driving for a long time and have solved alot of the problems burnout paradise was born with years ago. Also there is a much bigger focus on car customization in midnight club. In fact of all the xbox games ported to the 360 I wanted midnight club 3 the most, but it never happened. I still have my fingers crossed for that even though they aren't porting anything anymore. also for the record midnight club 2 and 3 did not have any goofy gta physics or cartoony city models so I don't expect they'll do that now.

Me rikey, love the Midnight Club stuff.  Will it beat the new Need for Speed though?
