Rare's signature "R," that upside-down sock with a chunk taken out of the heel, will no longer be the biggest part of the British developer's logo. Rare has rebranded, its old-school logo overhauled, giving off a fresh, cool, and simplistic vibe probably characteristic of what we'll see from the creator in a post-Natal world.
According to the press release, Rare believes "the timing is perfect" to show off its new look. This summer will mark the 25th anniversary of the developer, after all. "Both Rare and the games industry have seen massive changes over the past 25 years," studio head Mark Betteridge said in a statement, "and right now it feels as if both we and the industry are continuing to evolve at an ever-increasing pace.
"With this landmark anniversary coming up, and knowing that we have a really exciting future head, we felt now was the time to have a new image more in keeping with an innovative and creative entertainment company which aspires to be around for at least the next 25 years!"
The new logos (via Develop) are forward thinking, for sure. My gut tells me it's okay to like 'em. My gut also told me that Alpha Protocol was flat out going to rock, too. I don't know if I like my gut anymore.

But blank white background + Helvetica (or nearest and cheapest variety there of) font has been the standard method for decades. It's basic corporate and that's fine for most people but come on, this is Rare! They're here to do weird and silly nonsense with a sense of humour. This is so flat... Gosh darn modernists and their love of simplicity over expression!
(It's odd that twice today Whisky Media has made me want to re-watch "Helvetica.")
The new logo is alright, personally I think at this point they should have kept it, or changed it slightly to make it new. The logo is nostalgic now =/
The Rare logo? Really? A article with the logo in focus? Well, it's just like Yorks coffee I guess, from the change of Rare logos Brad can tell the future.
As long as it's (the next game) Conker, Banjo, Kameo or something new (and awesome), then it's all good. If they make another N&B then they should borrow some ideas from Trackmania/ Modnation Racers.
As a designer I feel insulted that this is the best they came up with. What's worse is that I have a feeling the white background is part of it. The 'e' is also lower than the rest of the letters.
If I were Rare I'd fucking sue the deadshits that "designed" this piece of crap.
The old logo was neat and concise. Most of all it was recognisable. This looks so institutional it hurts.
This studio is way past its prime. I'm not sure if any of the head honchos from the mid-nineties are still there. I wouldn't mind seeing a KI release on XBLA or PSN though.
are are dead to me now I used to buy all the there games but after the last few years of bad game and the change of banjo kazooie nuts and bolts from a platformer in to somthing else I've giving up on them. Oh the new logo looks very boring.
