Resident Evil Taking Another Stab at the PC

That horrible RE4 PC port doesn't fill us with optimism, but Resident Evil 5 is headed to your IBM-compatible desktop computer nevertheless.

A few PC fans were not pleased about the RE4 port.
A few PC fans were not pleased about the RE4 port.
Apparently it's Election/Capcom Day for those of us in the US today. After a couple of different pieces of news about Street Fighter, MCV (via Kotaku) reports that a PC version of Resident Evil 5 has finally been confirmed for release alongside the console versions on March 13 of next year.

I know, I know. Because Resident Evil 4 was so great on PC, yes? Actually, no, it was awful, with graphics and lighting far inferior to the GameCube version and bafflingly limited control options. Hard to get too stoked about RE5 suffering the same fate, right?

Wrong. This is the new Capcom we're talking about here. The Capcom that cares about its community and about the quality of all its games. More importantly, the Capcom that invested a lot of money and time in a multiplatform development strategy and technology that's resulted in other current and upcoming games--games like Devil May Cry 4, Bionic Commando Rearmed, and the new Bionic Commando--getting fully respectable treatment on the PC.

So I'm confident that RE5 is going to be totally playable and up to par with the PS3 and 360 editions. Hey, if they managed to fit in proper mouse control and Games For Windows achievements, that might even be the version I'll want to play.

Since the games (I dunno about BC, but DMC4 and pretty sure RE5) are actually developed on the PC, and the PS3/360 versions are the technical 'ports', I'm pretty sure this will be up to snuff.

I'll buy it for the PC because it's the superior platform to own any games on if the know how and money to do so. I'd be really excited to play the game with a better resolution and with AA and AF on and true HDR. Also I prefer shooters with the keyboard and mouse and frigging some of the mods for the PC will be like letting you move while shooting and strafing at all times which is what I'd want.

Glad they announced it but just hope they don't fuck it up like with Resident Evil 4 (which you have to download mods for to fix it) however they done a good job with Devil May Cry 4  and are supporters now of the pc gmaing alliance so.....

Brad: They actually patched the game so the lighting and textures were drastically improved.
Like you say, if they actually manage to create a great control scheme and GFW Live, I'll play the PC version

Let's hope the PC version of R5 is better than R4.

I'm glad to hear this. DMC4 was great, and I think better, on the PC. I'm willing to see how RE5 fares.

Here's hoping that they implement mouse and keyboard controls. If it's Games For Windows, there should be XBOX 360 Controller support as well.

If they put it on steam.  It will sell well.

My thinking is like this:   on steam?  buy PC.   It isnt?  buy console.

PC games not on steam...  welcome to software theft

A gamepad will definitely be essential to anyone who plans to play this on the PC. I just hope it turns out just as well as the DMC4 port.

I definitely will be picking this version up as long as the porting job is done well.

The PC version of RE4 got patched and there's mods that fix a lot of what was wrong about the PC port so it eventually became playable, but as it came out it was truly laughable.

I'm kind of confused. Isn't every game developed on a PC first and then ported over to the consoles? It never really made much sense to me that the console versions could be better than the original version that was built using a PC.

It's Capcom. On the PC. I predict that it will have no mouse support and won't even meet Games for Windows standards.

To the silly person requesting Capcom to just "focus on the consoles" you realize that the framework engine which Capcom is using in Games such as DMC4 and RE4 is built for the PC, and then ported to the consoles, right?

I don't think that Brad did his research. There was a patch for the PC version of RE4 that fixes the lighting, therefore it was not 100% un-fixable before hand.

I felt compelled to reply to this and login for once in a long long time mainly because I was sick of reading console tards comments on this situation.

First off Brad is half right with the graphics, the graphics were inferior except a patch came out which fixed majority of these problems and while the PC version of the game didn't have in-game engine cutscenes but rather low quality movie renders it wasn't exactly terrible.

The controls were the worst part and thanks to some talented people on the internet you can get a mouse aim mod for the game which adds the ability to right click to draw your weapon and aim using the mouse and fire.

It's not perfect but it does the job and being a mouse and keyboard (even though its supposedly just emulating key push aiming) it more than does the job and is WAYYYYY more accurate than the gamecube and playstation 2 version of the game.

The PC version is like the PS2 version except with slightly better graphics and does include the extra content the PS2 verison had that the gamecube version didn't.

For Resident Evil 5 provided they do the controls right on PC it's a given that it will be better on PC look at Dead Space  - better loading times, almost none :D

Far Cry 2 - Better graphics, controls.

Fallout 3, Better graphics, controls, mods, um everything.

PC > everything

But yet again I'm an elitest bastard and so if your a console tard who likes to play your games and is happy that way then so be it however I think by choosing the PC platform with mods, gametrainers and community orientated free content you can get more for your gaming dollar provided your PC doesn't suck balls.

Look at Portal, I have Portal on Steam and Miro$oft charged for the extra FREE map pack on PC. Maps and content is FREE for the PC version and with superior controls and graphics why the heck would you even bother buying the console verison.

Oh I forgot there are console tards out there who will take anything Micr$oft throws down their throats and will pay actial MONEY for THEMES and GAME ICONS. WTF, In my opinion if you buy that stuff you deserve to be ripped off.

Anyway

/rant

Resident Evil 5 will be better on PC no matter what.

Fantastic - this is great news, I didn't have a GC or PS 2 to play RE:4 so I bought it on PC, once I got past the horrific controls the game was great... I'd love to play RE:5 on PC bar the controls must include full mouse support amongst other things!

No please no Games for Windows Live it's a piece of shit that noone likes and every game that ships with it seems to suffer from performance issues and crashes like Gears of War or Fallout 3.

Hey kiddies,

let's all stay calm. I just read the post from this vampireblood dude and frankly, I can not understand this systemwar that is constantly going on.
I mean, if you dont have 200 bucks to afford an xbox 360 for all the console exclusives AND still have enaugh money to buy a decent PC,
I dont get why you guys are hanging out in forums and arguing over what version and what system will be better.
I own an xbox 360 and a decent PC, but still I am glad everytime I hear about a great exclusive ( gears 2, anyone ? ) that I own my xbox360, hooked up
to a beamer and a 5.1 surround system. For all those guys who are complaining about exlusive games on other platforms : PLEASE, just get a job and
work for a weekend, and you simply can afford both. The time spend arguing over which system is better could be used to earn money and simply own
everything, then you have the luxury of choice what game you want to buy for what system. I can tell you, though I own a PC, I really prefer the xbox 360
lately. Do you think I care if there are 2 more palmtrees in Far Cry 2 on the PC if I can play in my hometheater with my xbox 360, sitting on a nice comfi coach ? If you do so, you need to get a life and grow up.

peace and all

If most of Resident Evil 4's fixes came in the form of mods, that does not improve my perception of Capcom's PC porting jobs. Capcom should be the one fixing issues with their games, not modders.
