Ron Gilbert's Game at Double Fine Is... Puzzling

Today a featureless cardboard box arrived at the office, sent by one "Double Fine." Inside was this...

...which I quickly assembled into this.

OK, so the image pretty much speaks for itself, but since Ron Gilbert has a great track record and Double Fine has been spinning straw into downloadable gold for a couple years now, I know my interest is piqued. It's never too early to start speculating about exactly what this game is gonna be, so whatcha got?

It will be a first-person jigsaw puzzle simulator. 
Set underground. 
During a dinosaur apocalypse. 
And it will have dual-wielding. 
 
That is all the information that could possibly be extracted from that image.

Aliens.

Clearly it will be a tactical modern day first person shooter with a heavy multiplayer component. That dude on the right with the mask has a gun, the woman is a medic. All the people behind them are your teammembers. On the floor of the cave you see the remains of some newbs they just fragged.

This is a different project, it's been in the works for a while now. The Kickstarter thing was a new project, they probably won't show it for another little while.

This Ron Gilbert project is something else entirely.

Double FIne has been doing awesome stuff over the past few years and adding Ron Gilbert to the mix sure as hell makes me interested.

Scientist/Doctor Lady seems to be the same from some concept art that was shown in 2011

I just want this game to be weird and funny. And it looks like it'll be exactly that.

From the text in the puzzle, and the skeletons I would say it has ghosts. From Ron Gilbert, and Double Fine so it must be humorous. There appears to be a knight and a scientist lady and a pig in a sombrero. Humor + Ghost + knights = Army of Darkness

Humor + ghost + Scientist = ....Ghostbusters

anthropomorphic pig = Beyond Good and Evil

So it must be a combination of Ghostbusters, Army of Darkness, and Beyond Good and Evil…. But with Deathspank game play mechanics.

It's about a band of time travelling misfits that originates with the scientist lady and grows with different people from multiple eras throughout time?

...or is it a game combining different Doublefine characters? That silhouette there on the left looks like it could be Raz from Psychonauts. I love a good mystery.

...and beyond that, Ron Gilbert has a pretty great track record.

I mean, the guys trash Brutal Legend also, but they love Double Fine games. = /

Also, Deathspank DESERVED trashing. All of them. They are terrible, but the humor was good.

Brad also died ten times whilst trying to put the pieces together. I didn't even think it was possible to die whilst putting a jigsaw puzzle together; well, you learn something new everyday.

I enjoyed the first two DeathSpank games. I haven't played the third, but I find the humor and gameplay quite entertaining.

Looks pormising. I'm guessing a sim puzzle piece game with cool art.

Sold. Whatever it is, whenever it comes out, just take my money and leave me a copy of the game. Even if it's poop. Let's do this.

I'm always excited for a new Double Fine project, but I hope it's funnier than Ron's last effort. I find his older work hilarious, but I didn't really enjoy DeathSpank's brand of humour as much.

That "great track record" Klepek talk about has DeathSpank as its latest entry - that game they kicked into the dirt on the podcast.

I guess we'll see what this is. The art looks sort of interesting.

I love Ron Gilbert, but good God, I'm tired of this whole "Solve this puzzle to see a screenshot of our game" bullshit. Either market the game or don't. Grow up for fuck's sake.
