Skyrim Patch We’re All Waiting For Coming Very Soon

Plenty of weird issues on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC getting fixed this week.

DRAAAAAAGONS.

Having games like Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception and Rayman: Origins around has made the process of putting The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on hold the last few weeks considerably easier.

When Bethesda Game Studios announced a patch was in the works to fix the annoying texture bug when the Xbox 360 version of the game is installed to the hard drive, I paused my addiction.

That patch is finally coming to all platforms this week, starting with the PlayStation 3 version, and fixes the texture issue, amongst many other things. The patch should be live for European PS3 users now, with Bethseda hoping the patch arrives on Xbox 360 and PC on Wednesday.

The full change list, dubbed version 1.2, courtesy of Bethesda:

  • Improved occasional performance issues resulting from long term play (PlayStation 3)
  • Fixed issue where textures would not properly upgrade when installed to drive (Xbox 360)
  • Fixed crash on startup when audio is set to sample rate other than 44100Hz (PC)
  • Fixed issue where projectiles did not properly fade away
  • Fixed occasional issue where a guest would arrive to the player’s wedding dead
  • Dragon corpses now clean up properly
  • Fixed rare issue where dragons would not attack
  • Fixed rare NPC sleeping animation bug
  • Fixed rare issue with dead corpses being cleared up prematurely
  • Skeleton Key will now work properly if player has no lockpicks in their inventory
  • Fixed rare issue with renaming enchanted weapons and armor
  • Fixed rare issue with dragons not properly giving souls after death
  • ESC button can now be used to exit menus (PC)
  • Fixed occasional mouse sensitivity issues (PC)
  • General functionality fixes related to remapping buttons and controls (PC)

This will likely be the first of several patches for Skyrim. Now I just need to make sure I’m done with Uncharted 3 before the patch drops on Wednesday, and the addiction begins all over again...

Oh good. I'm picking it up for the 360 this week so...perfect timing!

Again, I still didn't have any major bugs or glitches on the PC version after 40 hours of playing. And I modded the shit out of it, tons of new textures, EmpoweredMagicka, LargeAddressAware workaround, faster Magicka regen (I'm not using ANY melee weapons with my character btw), modified INI and NvidiaInspector settings to make it look prettier...

The only time I had a dragon not give up a soul was when the dragon that was on Mt. Anthor came back and I killed him again. I still got the bones and scales he just didn't disintegrate. I figured since he was a "fixed" dragon encounter that it made sense that he only gave up a soul once.

Anyone else have the "Red Eagle" quest back on their Misc. quest list after finishing it? I did it and then re-read the book which added it to my list again. Nothing too bad, but it will be annoying if I ever complete them all and that is still on there!

I also nearly had the quest break where you help the trapped Hargraven get his tower back from another Hargraven. If anyone encounters it be sure to let the imprisoned one out BEFORE you trek through the tower. He has to be there for the battle against the other Hargraven. If you kill them all, then let him go he will just stand in the final room and the quest will never be completed.

Also....I do find it a bit rediculous all of this "Patch we've been waiting for" business. I've played 50+ hours of it already with only minor glitches and one lockup. Even without this patch, the game is still great. I did notice the PS3 issues after long gameplay, but that always was the games way of telling me "Hey dude youve been playing this a long time, maybe take a break?!"

At last ... BEDSIDE TABLES IN HD. What a glorious time to be alive.

List seems a little slim though to be honest. Hope there's more minor changes as well ... like getting rid of this fucking drum that's sat permanently in my inventory even though I've finished the quest.

What I want is a reset for house decorations. The game loaded the interior of the house once without shelves and it still loaded the stuff that was on top of the shelves which made a HUGE mess in the house in Whiterun. I put it all back carefully and the next time I cam back it was a mess again. I want a 'reset your house decorations' option that puts everything back where it belongs so it stays there. I'm sick of my house looking like crap because they game had a loading problem and I was dumb enough to not reload thinking that cleaning up by hand would fix it.

@FoxMulder: Yeah, I got that Red Eagle quest after I finished it as well. Second time I finished it I just left that sword you get in the stone. Don't know if that did anything, but I haven't got that quest again.

And folks like me without net connected PS3s are still screwed I guess. Thanks for releasing an obviously broken game Bethesda. I guess you will have to wait until the GOTY version for my money now.

So... any word on the construction kit for PC?

Posted by travisg83

happy about the ps3 fix.. have been having some frame rate issues after playing several hours

Fixed occasional issue where a guest would arrive to the player’s wedding dead

Why are they taking this out? Sounds hillarious :D. This is the kind of weird shit you want to keep in an open world game.

I had the dragons not giving souls issue. Started a new char because of it:(

Why isn't your PS3 connected to the Internet? To be honest, modern consoles not being connected seems strange.

Wait you can get married?! And invite zombies!!? Why fix that? Sounds like DLC for Saints Row.

Because I live in the middle of nowhere and decent internet is not available. Not every PS3 owner has high speed net. Even if they do, not all have their PS3's connected online. Many are content to just play single player games.

Releasing a game that you know is this badly broken and will require a patch is bad business.

Real world issues.

I have come across very few bugs on the pc version to be honest aside from the general lack of pc functionality. This patch doesn't seem to do much substantial, which is fine since the mod community seems to have already addressed/worked around most of the serious issues.

Anyone "holding off" playing this game to wait for bug fixes is living they life incorrectly.

**raises hand** That, and I have a backlog of games to keep me busy.

Finally be able to install Skyrim to my 360 hard drive.

Posted by GunslingerPanda

I haven't really noticed any game-breaking bugs, just funny glitches like that dude outside Whiterun getting two clones. Major problem is the UI is so console-ized it's sometimes a bit broken on PC, why on Earth is that not on this list?

Posted by Slaker117

I wonder if they'll ever get around to fixing the three separate progression breaking bugs I encountered that forced me to reload earlier saves, netting a loss of around 20 hours of play time.

I love the Skyrim to death, but that is not acceptable.

Posted by TheHT

I've already gotten used to tabbing to get out of menus.

Posted by Marcness

Hmm...I hope this patch doesn't break the game for players that don't have these issues. I've been playing crash-free on the PC for 36 hours and haven't experienced any of the listed issues with the exception of the "non-aggressive dragon" issue, but that isn't game-breaking.

Posted by Beforet

So I've noticed this glitch with one of the Companion quests, Animal Extermination. If I try to go up to the target, my game crashes. No error, just a crash. Does this patch fix it?

Posted by fisk0

Never had the extreme issues on PS3 that some players reported, but yeah, even without the major frame-rate issues others had the game runs noticeably smoother now (never had any lock-ups prior to the patch, but 15 minutes after installing the patch the game hung for around a minute or two, but then cleared itself up when the currently playing song ended).

Fixed occasional issue where a guest would arrive to the player’s wedding dead

Zombie Lydia can no longer object to your wedding.

I cannot friggin' wait until I can install this to the 360's HDD without consequence. After 80+ hours the incessantly long load times were beginning to make me a little crazy. It's unfortunate that they aren't fixing any quest bugs yet. I've lucked out on that front, as I was able to overcome the few I've run across without much trouble.

Hopefully, arrows won't be stuck in my head anymore.

Posted by enemymouse

I hope they fixed the issue with the PC UI where the wrong category title is enlarged, caused by using the mouse to select it. That's my top design flaw with the game, 80 hours in. Not bad.

Would also like better dual wield favourites management.

Posted by forkboy

I hope it resolves the issue I'm having on a Thieves Guild quest where one Argonian I was following has just vanished from the face of Skryim.

Posted by tourgen

Weird that I've experienced at least 3 of these rare issues? I've played out 40 hrs.

Posted by Neezie

"Fixed occasional issue where a guest would arrive to the player’s wedding dead" that sounds hilarious why would I ever want to get rid of that?

Posted by Xcessive

Fixed occasional issue where a guest would arrive to the player’s wedding dead - FUCK I LOVE THIS GAME

Posted by fetchfox

@Palaeomerus: I think you'll get that. I shouted storm call in my Solitude house some time ago, and everything went everywhere, but after the patch everything was back on their respective shelves.

Posted by RsistncE

This list is funny only because some of the fixes are ridiculous while some of the "bugs" are just baffling.

"ESC button can now be used to exit menus"

Seriously?

With up to date AMD graphics drivers I'm getting pretty bad fps on my MacBook. I've seen youtube videos that show the same hardware running 30-40 fps @ 1680x1050 with everything on high and I barely get 30 in most cases using that res. I've got the 6750m 1GB on my 2011 17 inch MBP and I should be getting better FPS on this machine than 25 avg. None of my other games have this problem and they are just a graphically demanding (RAGE, Fallout 3 and Valve games). Valve games aren't as demanding but I can get over 100 FPS easily in most of them with everything about the same settings as Skyrim does. It also stuttersteps every 5 seconds or so every other time I start it. Maybe it's drivers, maybe it's the game but it's really annoying. Hope something changes because that is piss poor performance from that game. At 1900x1200 I should be getting at minimum 30, but even at 1280x800 I don't get above 35 FPS outdoors and 40 indoors. At that resolution I should be above 60. I hope it's not the drivers because it's a bitch to install on a MacBook.

Yeah a lot of those "rare" issues aren't that rare.

And if that's all there is to the patch I'll keep playing. No point waiting.

Is the Creation Kit or whatever coming with this patch for PC? That may give folks a good reason to wait.

Posted by d3c0yBoY

My wife gave me the old " It's me or that fucking game" choice. I guess I could give her some attention before the patch is up.

Posted by Rocospi

How about fixing that one Dark Brotherhood quest where if you do a certain thing totally screws you over in buying the Windhelm home? AND there's no way to even brute force start the quest in console commands.

Fixed occasional issue where a guest would arrive to the player’s wedding dead

I really wish this happened at my wedding. That would of been hilarious!

Posted by jasonefmonk

Lag, dragons not attacking, not giving souls, and their corpses not cleaning up, are all bugs I ran into while playing (PS3). Still having a hell of a time at ~50 hours in.

Posted by Irvandus

@Shakezula84: Its not story related in any way, its very minor, like getting a new companion.

Posted by Chris2KLee

Had the crappy sound bug on PC with the main quest where one character can't speak, so you couldn't move forward with the story. Luckily someone mad a quick fix for it. Overall, probably the smoothest Bethesda game I've played at launch, but the jankiness is kinds of a charm now.

I've not had a wedding yet. But....

  • occasional issue where a guest would arrive to the player’s wedding dead

sounds awesome.

Posted by oasisbeyond

Thesc button thing is a joke... As a tester I would always test that and the windows key. Stuff like that should always be fixed before launch... Come on. I tested just Cause 2 and Batman AA and I find those same bugs months before launch.

I get lagg on the 360 every once in awhile. I think I've played around 40 hours so far and haven't had any other problems.
