Sony to Update PlayStation Store Multiple Times Per Week to Catch Up

As PlayStation Network continues to come online worldwide--except in Japan, for now--and multiplayer on PlayStation 3 becomes a thing again, players are rightfully beginning to wonder when they'll be able to start acquiring new content. Sony's still working on getting PlayStation Store back to its original functionality, but said today it will be updating the store multiple times per week when it's back online.

"To catch up on the large amount of material, we’ll be publishing to the PlayStation Store multiple times per week once commerce functionality is restored," said social media manager Jeff Rubenstein, as part of a FAQ addressing many of the lingering PSN issues. "We will update the PlayStation.Blog with information on timing of the Store restoration, as well as the full list of new content as each publish occurs."

Sony's said full functionality will return by month's end, which is about as specific as I'd expect Sony to get at the moment. Given how often Sony has to shift the original kick-off date for PSN, I'm not surprised.

I'd rather have it all at once, but I can also see myself being in the minority with that opinion.

Poor developers. Their stuff is gonna get lost in a deluge of content now, hopefully Sony will make it up for them by promoting their games again a little later in the year.

Hopefully HMX has sent Sony the DLC for the past 3 weeks, so they can catch up during this time as well. I want my Foo Fighters dammit!

Sounds like a bad idea honestly. Smaller developers will be getting the shaft because they'll be included in a flood of titles.

Seems like the only way to get it out evenly, putting it all out there at once is too much.

PSN store could still be down until the end of the month?
Thats terrible for people like me who bought Mortal Kombat or any other PS3 game that requires the activation of an online pass. No store, no code entry, no online. I'm on the last day of the 2 day trial for MK and after that it'll be just like when PSN went down. Guess I'll just have to hope they get it working within the week.

I'm guessing the free stuff they're promising will show up after the store's fully back on track. It sounds like the bandwidth use is going to be hectic enough.
