Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time Remake Surfaces

New Xbox Live Arcade title surfaces at "Gotham Galabunga."

Here's a lady! And the title screen!
Here's a lady! And the title screen!
You know, I liked the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles when I was growing up. But not enough to feel that there needed to be, like, conventions or other events devoted to reminiscing about the power of... Turtle Power. But hey, I was a few years older than the target audience for TMNT when it totally blew up, so that probably has a lot to do with it.

Anyway, at just such an event--known as the Gotham Galabunga, but it sounds like it was part of the Tribeca Film Festival--a new TMNT game surfaced. It's an Xbox Live Arcade remake of the second arcade game, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time. I spotted a link to the "Ninja Pizza" blog over on Destructoid, and they've got some details on what, exactly, this is going to be, based on what representatives at the event were saying.

Two levels from the game were on display, and it was said to match up pretty well with the original game, though Bebop and Rocksteady--who appeared as bosses in one section--have been replaced by "Tokka" and "Rahzar." I don't even know what a Tokka or a Rahzar are, but they obviously can't be better than Bebop and Rocksteady.

Uhh... I totally don't remember either Beebop or Rocksteady in the SNES version. I do, however, clearly remember Tohka and Rahzar. I think they appeared in the Technodrome level.

Weird... I was just making a point to my girlfriend 2 days ago about how great this game was when I was younger, 'cause even though it was only 30 minutes long, I played it over, and over, and over again without ever really getting bored.

Most likely also coming to wiiware

Also looks like that this game is based on the arcade version of the game since a level that did not get ported over to the snes was playable. Perhaps they are making an "ultimate" version with all the content from both the Arcade and the SNES version mashed together, we'll see.

Can someone explain to me how this game is 2.5 D but the original Turtles in Time was 2d?

Do you just mean that the sprites are 3D models?

Because Turtles in Time was clearly not just a 2d game. You could move towards and away from the screen, as opposed to, say Super Mario World, where you could not...?

Maybe I'm using the wrong terms.
