Telltale Games Reveals A Mashup Poker Title For Fall Release

Poker Night at the Inventory looks to be a unique poker game and not just because a certain bunny will be at the table.

Last week, the studio responsible for Sam & Max and an upcoming game (or games) based on Jurassic Park, Telltale Games, tossed out a brief and mysterious teaser for an unannounced mashup game starring Team Fortress 2's Heavy, Penny Arcade's Tycho, Homestar Runner's Strong Bad, and Sam & Max's psychotic bunny, Max. That game was revealed this morning as Poker Night at the Inventory, a poker game that stars all of the above.

Telltale says Poker Night will be "more than just another poker title," and it's hard to argue with that. In addition to straight-up poker, the game will feature a cast of voiced and established characters, unique tells, and dynamic reactions.

Poker Night is the second title in Telltale Games' "pilot" program, which kicked off earlier this year with the release of Graham Annable's superbly atmospheric, yet soul-crushingly flawed Puzzle Agent. Poker Night is expected to release later this Fall on the PC and Macintosh for five bucks. You can pre-order the game now via its Steam page and save 10-percent off the price.

I support videogame crossovers, but having no interest in Poker I doubt I'll buy it but eager to follow any coverage of it.

Truly, this is the future of cross-overs.

Posted by Bigby

AHA! I knew it!

Posted by MayorFeedback

It's a poker game, it's only five dollars, and it has the Heavy in it? Sold.

Posted by er111801

Hopefully they get Gabe to draw the in-game Tycho.

Posted by Twazuk

Just pre-ordered. God this is ridiculous, I don't even know how to play poker.

"soul-crushingly flawed Puzzle Agent. "

Wait, what? I thought it was good- not perfect, but certainly not 'soul crushing'.

Posted by ThatFrood

How do you play poker with boxing gloves on?

Posted by aurahack

Ahhh card game was right. What the hell.

Posted by MetalGearSunny

They got all these characters and they're going to make them play poker? That's kinda dumb.

Posted by White_Silhouette

I'm not sure what to make of this. I guess it's a bunch of great game characters, and it's hard to mess up a poker game.

here's hoping

Cool little trick.

exactly, soul crushing is harsh, I quite enjoyed the game myself, but then again I do love me some Grickle so maybe that has a biased influence on me.

oh man, I have to buy this.  Strong Bad alone is worth the admission price.  I always wanted to try a poker video game, but needed an excuse.  This is my excuse.

Posted by Boom_goes_the_dynamite

You know this is probably one of the most realistic crossovers ever, instead of just randomly fighting each other, they get together and play poker.

Yup, I pre-brought it.

I'm not even a big poker fan but it's too cheap and awesome to pass up.

only 4 characters?

Posted by MysteriousBob

TF2 and Sam and Max are fucking awesome.

The other two are unfunnny and can piss off.

Posted by CaptainTightPants

Well its great that they chose the heavy, he's my favorite personality in TF2.

I wonder if I can get away with just "Zzzzzzzzz"

Posted by napalmtrees

The really weird part is that this is their second poker crossover game.

Posted by BenderUnit22

Well, Heavy needs cash something bad, Sasha is expensive to fire

Posted by MarkWahlberg

So.... Poker based action RPG?

Posted by cikame

Shame i don't know how to play poker.

Posted by RedHatDrew

This will be the NFL Blitz of poker games: a poker game for those who hate poker games.

Best card game ever!

Whaaat the fuuuuuck

Posted by MjHealy

I was interested in this until I saw "Poker". Not interested now, sadly.

Posted by Deusoma

Meh. Poker games are always mediocre, and sticking a bunch of characters in as window dressing isn't going to help.

@cikame: It's pretty easy to learn, just have someone teach you it in 5 minutes.
Posted by TheMoD

oh goddammit I was hoping it'd be a pointnclick adventure. That would have been awesome
Posted by JackSukeru

Well that's one way to get me to lose interest I guess.

On the other hand, it's probably the best way to motivate me into trying poker again.

So maybe.

Posted by sagesebas

So the big cool mashup crossover, was a poker game. COOL

Edited by zaglis

So it really is a shit-poker game. I guess nightmares sometimes come true.

Posted by Cybexx

This could have been way more interesting, but that is still cool. I wonder if Tycho is also voiced, because that would be a first.

FINALLY!

Posted by LiquidPenguins

@BradNicholson according to steam when you buy it, it comes out in a slightly more specific November.

Posted by wrench

it was pretty obvious the characters were holding cards in the teaser trailer,  so dunno why some folks are taking it as much of a surprise.
a personality-driven poker game is pretty freaking sweet, especially when they are a distinct bunch as they've assembled here.

Posted by Simulacrum

I'm still buying the hell out of this.

Posted by ryalmc

What sick man sends babies to bluff me!!!

Posted by frsty13

I do love Telltale, but this just seems like that tech demo poker game they made a few years back, only with better characters.  They'll probably still get my $5, but I'm not overly excited.

Posted by MisterMouse

such a weird mash up...
