Today In Battlefield 3 Screw-Ups: Battlefield 1943 Not Included With PS3 Copies as Promised

Instead, PS3 owners will be getting 'early access' to downloadable content. Oh, that's much better!

You have to hand it to Electronic Arts on Battlefield 3's launch: when EA borks something up, they really go for the gusto. As if botched Betas, shadily dealt-out review code, broken Xbox 360 servers on launch day, and hilariously bonkers nonsense like this weren't enough, now we can go ahead and add randomly missing console-exclusive bonuses to the endlessly burning tire fire of rage that EA refuses to stop pouring gasoline on.

No Caption Provided

You may remember waaaaayyyyyy back in June at a little industry get-together called E3, that EA, by way of Sony's Jack Tretton, announced that all PlayStation 3 copies of Battlefield 3 would come with an extra-special bonus game packed onto the Blu-ray disc in the form of Battlefield 1943. Up until the game's launch yesterday, no one had any reason to believe that Battlefield 1943 wouldn't be appearing as a bonus in the PS3 version. Then yesterday happened, and suddenly it was not there.

Responding to this understandable query by the confused masses, EA's poor, unfortunate community manager in charge of Battlefield 3 was forced to take to Twitter and announce that...no, I can't re-type it. It's too painful.

In lieu of 1943 being available on disk for PS3 customers, EA has made all BF3 expansions available early to PS3 customers.

Right.

So, just to recap, instead of a free game that had been previously promised to be included on the disc, PlayStation 3 owners will be granted the first opportunity to buy more Battlefield 3. Is anyone else feeling a little like Will Ferrell at the end of Zoolander right now?

The issue is less that EA had to go back on including Battlefield 1943 as part of the package--dumb things happen during development, and it's understood that sometimes things don't work out as you expect--but the fact that nobody notified consumers of this fact prior to the game's launch is straight-up horrendous. At any time, any time, during the PR cycle for Battlefield 3, someone at EA could have piped up and said, "Oh, that was just craaaaaaazy uncle Jack at Sony getting loose of his bed straps again and talking crazy talk! We don't have Battlefield 1943 on this disc!" Instead, they let people continue to believe that a console-exclusive bonus existed when, in fact, it did not.

If you can't see something deeply, deeply wrong with that, I think you may be beyond help.

Oh no, how horrible. Surely now no one can enjoy BF3 anymore now that they don't get the irrelevant 1943 game that no one cared about in the first place. My life as a gamer on PS3 is ruined, RUINED. And please, please don't let PS3 owners download first person shooter DLC first for a change, that's so blatantly mean of you EA. Ugh. Argh. /wrist

@pepsimaxofborg: Your missing the point. For certain people (Obviously not you) this may have been the thing that tipped them over the edge to buying the game at launch. Just because you don't find the addition valuable doesn't mean no one else will.

The point is they promised people something that they didn't deliver on. Now all these people are getting as reconciliation is the ability to pay for extra content maybe a week early, instead of it being free. Free stuff vs not having to wait an extra week to buy more stuff is pretty obvious.

I have zero interest in this game anymore. Ever since the decision to make Origin manditory, forcing customers to use a service they don't want which happens to be a ghost of many other services like it that work perfectly fine (i.e. Steam) it just left a sour taste in my mouth. Now, after reading all of this, I can now say that EA will in fact never see a penny from me for this game.

If the point is lying is bad, then I got that point when I was around 3. The problem here is that EA (like others) lied once again, and people continue to be surprised and angered and yet in most cases purchase the product anyway. Prove to them it's bad by skipping this purchase. Until then, complaining about it everytime in my little opinion is futile.

I don't know off-hand but I'm betting BF1943 costs 5usd by now? If more it's a robbery. So the value of this additional product still seems overblown to me and while it's bad that it's not there, if I was interested, I'd much prefer early access to DLC.

I never understood how paying for DLC early is considered a bonus.

I'm not a lawyer but can't one sue for false advertisement aka mislead the customer?

If you purchased the game for PS3 with the documented and verbal knowledge/understanding that you would receive another game for free only to find out that it was a lie and you did not receive a similar item of equal value is wrong.

A business can't do that right?

I already have 1943 so this doesn't affect me as much but yeah man, it's beyond fucked up.

Also I think that the worst part is that they think anyone gives two fucks about early access to fucking DLC and that it totally makes up for it, that's just ridiculous, they should be setting up somewhere where PS3 BF3 owners could go to register their copies of the game and get a voucher to download 1943, at the very least.

EA seems to be going out of their way to convince us all that they are not a company to be trusted.

Apparently one of the community managers at EA does more than manage the community, he f#### shit up. Considering that rumour, he may have been the guy who decided to announce the inclusion of 1943. Most people do more than their job title suggests.

This isn't just desperate. This is pulling every dirty trick in the book to accrue more sales than the "competition." I wouldn't be surprised if DICE was left in the dust if this doesn't work out.

Wouldn't it be funny if they were picked up by Activision after?

@PhilESkyline: You could sue for a refund, but it's not like you could get millions of dollars out of them because to sue someone you have to be able to show loss.
