Tony Hawk HD Getting Tony Hawk 3 Levels After All [UPDATED x2]

Granted, they're coming as post release DLC, but hey, it's something!

UPDATE 2: Activision's Dan Amrich clued me in to his latest One of Swords podcast, where he talks to Robomodo president Josh Tsui about numerous Tony Hawk HD things, including revert. Though Tsui stops short of outright guaranteeing the inclusion of revert, he says that they want to "stay true to the mechanics" of the original game, implying that the THPS3 levels may very well feature revert as a mechanic. You can hear the interview here. (Skip to the 42:00 mark if you just want to hear about revert.)

UPDATE: So everything I'd read about Tony Hawk HD had previously said reverts weren't a part of the gameplay, and I'd originally mentioned that at the end of this story. However, I'm getting conflicting information from people about reverts possibly being included, but not counting toward scoring. Since I now have no idea one way or the other and am waiting for confirmation, I removed that portion of the story so as not to mislead anyone, regardless of accuracy.

---

Soon to be in HD, mayhaps?
Soon to be in HD, mayhaps?

After everyone got done celebrating the announcement of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD, Activision and Robomodo's HD update of Tony Hawk's Pro Skaters 1 and 2, attention was turned to the question of why, exactly, only levels from those two games would be included. While Robomodo has been cherry picking levels from those two games based on fan feedback, Tony Hawk 3, AKA one of the highest reviewed games in the history of ever, wasn't even on the ballot box.

Activision answered that question today by announcing that Tony Hawk HD will get Tony Hawk 3 levels after all... as DLC. Initially, DLC wasn't even something that had been announced for the game, but now it appears that following the game's launch, a selection of levels from Tony Hawk 3 will get the HD treatment.

Which levels? Nobody knows! Robomodo hasn't made any decisions on that front yet, and won't until they've surveyed fan feedback once again. The company put up a thread on the game's Facebook page--don't worry, you don't have to "like" anything--where fans can post their suggestions for the levels they'd like to see included. I have two words for Robomodo that actually should be one word: Air. Port.

Wait why does it even need a revert? What if you could just manual after you land and keep the combo going?

I thought they said the revert was in the game but would have no effect on combos?

I feel like this exact conversation regarding the inclusion of reverts was had on the Bombcast a few times. I don't think anyone is 100% on whether or not they'll be in there at all, and if they are, how it will affect combos.

@The_Nubster:

I'm getting conflicting information on this subject so I went ahead and made an update that removed that portion of the story and explained the confusion. Don't want to make declarative statements I can no longer guarantee to be accurate.

What's wrong with the revert? IMO American wasteland had the best feeling physics and most fluid trick system (with the exception of sticker slaps, FUCK STICKER SLAPS). That was the last great TH game.

Wasn't it in 4 when they finally allowed you to hit a button twice to do a more complicated move? Like, you could do a kickflip by hitting X, but if you hit X twice in a row, you'd do a double kickflip? That was by far my favorite addition to the mechanics.

3 had that.

Also this is pretty cool. I'd totally buy 3 based levels as DLC ( provided the base game is good)

THAW

you could do bank drops. thaw had the most elaborate and developed controls. project 8 was the first game they started to get rid of features and change the gameplay. THAW is forever the best tony hawk.

I need this game, but at this point reverts are such a solid part of my combo strategy. I love the Canada level from THPS3.

THPS2 was always my favorite, followed by THPS4 and THUG. I never really got into the third game for whatever reason, even though many people swear by it.

I used to love the hell out of THPS, but I really doubt I'll be into this at all. I'd rather play a HD-ified version of Thrasher: Skate and Destroy after all this time.

You're sadly misrepresenting the THPS franchise by calling it "button mashy". When I play Street Fighter or DMC it's a fairly "button mashy" experience, but I know there's a lot more depth to those games that I just haven't taken the time to tap into.

Once you get your timing down, you can pull off three million point combos in THPS3 without even thinking about it. Sure it takes a short sequence of inputs to do a thing, as opposed to hitting a single button, but it's still a game you can spam functions at and succeed very well.
