Good. Co-op is something it definitely needs. The demo was solid, but the fact is, this is running on Vigil's Darksiders engine, and that is not a comparison you want to make. Darksiders is awesome, with tons of depth to it's melee combat, tons of gadgets and it's own gunplay. As well as the killer style of seeing JoeMad's art done well in 3D. Space Marine also has a melee+gunplay focus, and while it does gunplay better than Darksiders, its melee is much much worse. And the visuals are also much less striking, thanks to a muted palette. That's to say nothing of the level design; brilliant, Zelda-esque dungeons and a bunch of large open areas versus stock third person shooter fare? Warhammer loses.
 
So it's a solid game, but it's also forgettable if you ask me. It needs as many features as possible to help it pop as an action game. Co-op always does that. But for my money, I'd rather play Relic's underrated The Outfit. That had more personality and a much more unique, much more fun hook - being able to drop vehicles whenever you felt like it - even on top of Nazis if you could manage. Something you see in games like Starhawk now. And that had co-op right out the gate.  It had a great "playing with all your GI Joes" feel to it; it was madness, and it was schlocky GI Joe/A-team stuff, but it was great. It's a shame most people wrote it off because of it's terrible visuals. I actually feel like Space Marine is a bit of a step back, creatively, for Relic...

this is good news. i like competative multiplayer but some times it gets too much. will definately prolong the life of this game

They shall know no fear, for they are fear incarnate (once their buddies can play with them in mid-October).

Nice, I played the demo ans I loved it, also, this game will have team deathmatch, Deathmatch and maybe CTF multiplayer :) And now the Co-op is free. Whats not to like?

I don't know WTF is going on. The demo just came out and at the end of it says "4 player co-op campaign."

Late addition, but it sounds cool. I like the Last Stand stuff in DoW2. Might eventually get Space Marine, and mainly for this. Sad it isn't there at launch.

@Wandrecanada: It's because co-op campaigns are very difficult to make. And just because game x, y, and z have it doesn't make it any easier. It's often a choice between: make a good co-op campaign, make a good multiplayer, or make a stable game. You get to pick two.

Knew co-op was a month off DLC, but hearing it's a survival mode is awesome. Perfect game for that. Shame it wasn't ready for launch, because in a month it'll be all Gears pretty much for me. Still buying and playing it day one.

They probably just wanted to get the game on shelves in time for the holidays.

As long as it's free I don't mind. The Last Stand co-op mode for Dawn of War 2 was also released as a downloadable update.

For some reason I'm still not sold on this game. I mean I'm a prime audience for it: I love the 40K universe, I played all the previous Relic DOW games and I like third person action games, but for some reason this game just isn't resonating with me. I even played the demo but it didn't change anything. Maybe when the game comes out and I see some more of the game's story it'll start to sink in more.

Cuz I'm a stupid hardcore 40k fan, not terribly pleased with the name Exterminatus. Now, if this was a co-op mode where you just nuked everything from orbit, that would be appropriate. o.o

But again, I'm just a stupid hardcore 40k fan. Still really looking forward to Space Marine. =D

Loved the Steam demo. This is good news. I hope they continue adding new maps and stuff since it only comes with 2 game modes on release.

Man, Co-Cop is my favorite game mode. I like to play as the cop that has 2 days until retirement.
