    Urban legends, particularly horrific ones, have come back into vogue among Internet communities, where they are referred to as "creepypasta". Some of the more popular examples have been adapted into video games.

    Overview

    The wave of Slender Man games in the early 2010s, kicked off by Slender: The Eight Pages, popularized the concept of horror games based on Internet urban legends, AKA creepypasta. Other popular legends and stories were given the same treatment, though Slender Man remains the most common theme because the original myth is so widely-known.
