There will be a Hardcore Mode!

Finally - Battlefield : Bad Company 1 promised it, Battlefield : Bad Company 2 has it! Hardcore Brand Mulitplayer! For all modes! Sweet!
Finally - Battlefield : Bad Company 1 promised it, Battlefield : Bad Company 2 has it! Hardcore Brand Mulitplayer! For all modes! Sweet!

    • No Killcam
    • Friendly Fire ON
    • No Aiming Reticule - Ironsights Only (and Scopes and Red Dot of course)
    • Higher Bullet Damage
    • No Minimap
    • No HUD whatsoever
    • No Spotting On-screen Indicators
    • Sensorballs just start to piep, when somebody moves in it's area of effect (and only a limited number active per team)

Hardcore-mode will be available for all online multiplayer gamemodes. Personally, I will play Hardcore mode for Friendly Fire ON primeraly, which is what I miss the most in the PS3 Beta. Friendly Fire promotes thoughtful gaming.

What do you think of the Hardcore mode? Do you like the ideo of it? Will you play on Normal or Hardcore setting servers? Does the Hardcore mode go too far, not far enough or is it spot-on?

I just hope that snipers can't onehit kill me with bodyshots, which would annoy me very much on large scale open maps. I'd be okay for a limited onehit kill range for bolt action sniper rifles, just like there was in the first game. Other than that, I like it a lot. Great stuff!

Woot! The first game sort of had a "normal" and "hard" level for multiplayer but I didn't think there was much of a difference. This "hardcore" mode seems like it is up my alley. I just hope idiots won't use this mode to thoughtlessly teamkill everyone. This is most excellent news, now those killcam whiners can shut up.

I share your concern about sniper damage and I think you don't have to worry since the Battlefield series has yet to overpower their snipers, which of course would allow snipers to dominate on the big maps that the games have always had.  I'd be surprised if they slipped up now.

    Excited for this game though.

I'm thinking snipers won't be a problem, since the damage will be offset by the difficulty of finding targets with no hud. Aside from that, woo!

That's awesome. Now I won't have to download a mod to play a "realistic" version of vanilla BFBC2. There's still room for tactical realism mods like PR, though.

I can't see myself playing a hardcore mode at all in a Battlefield game -- I just vision people in tanks not caring whom they're shooting at and the such. I'll play the hell out of regular online play however!

That's the beauty of the optional nature of the mode.  If you don't like it, don't use it.

Lets hope it's not a sniper fest, but as I said in my post up top DICE has always prevented their Battlefield games from becoming sniper centric despite the scale of the maps.  The destructible nature of the world and the vehicles also makes snipers less powerful than in say, Call of Duty.  Looking at the QL for the Bad Company beta, if you see a sniper up in a tower you can just blow that shit up.

Some forum guys living in SoCal were invited to the Squad Deathmatch reveal event and have played 7 hours of Panama Canal Conquest and the Jungle Map Squad Deathmatch. There have also been previews from that event on Gamespot, Kotaku, Destructoid and IGN, some of which are mentioning the Hardcore mode.  Too tired to check for it right now. It's like 6 AM... played a whole night of BF:BC 2 PS3 Beta again. I'm sure you'll find it. Check the official UK Battlefield forum. There's a couple of threads there too.

There was a 'Hard' mode planned for BF:BC 1, which would have included similiar changes to the gamebalance. It had been pulled in the last second for unknown reasons. Let's hope this doesn't happen this time around. Wouldn't be a Battlefield game with Friendly Fire OFF. ;P

By "aiming reticule," do you mean the onscreen crosshair?
And surely vehicles have a HUD element to tell the operator how damaged they are, right?

MW2 only had a hardcore mode for just a few of the game types. BC2 promises to have it for all modes.

In vehicles, when the damage is close to critical, there is always a warning buzzer.

It would be cool if they were to add more visual damage effects for vehicles, so you'd know without a HUD whether your hull can take that extra rocket hit or not.

I don't like that they're making all these lumped into one "mode."  IMO, friendly fire and killcam should be their own, individual options/filters, because I don't want the killcam and I do want friendly fire on, and they're significant enough on their own to be separate checkbox options.  But I don't want no minimap, no aiming reticule, higher bullet damage, no HUD, and no spotting.  This means I'll have to play with a killcam and friendly fire off if I don't want to have an even less desireable set of feature-enabling/disabling.  I don't like it.

I really hope this games lives up to the hype I've generated for it in my head. Everything about it sounds pretty awesome so far, can't wait to finally play it on PC; I played the PS3 beta a little bit and it seemed pretty damn good.

so hardcore will be bad company just without good things like hud and reticule and minimap. Its funny how casual games are getting when they call the basics hardcore.

The 'hardcore' mode is officially named 'realism' mode. The target audience for realism mode are players, who want Battlefield to be more like a mil-sim, than Battlefield usually is. Fans of BF2 mods like 'Project Reality' and such.

I think quite a few, if not the majority of dedicated BF players will end up playing realism mode. I certainly will play 'realism' mode every now and then. 'Vanilla' mode is just more of a game and less of a simulation.

I wonder what kind of options dedicated server admins will have. It would be great to be able to set basic things like killcam, spotting, individual hud elements, crosshairs, friendly fire, and ticket count. However some things should be kept strictly to realism mode and realism mode shouldn't be changeable.

But I doubt they'll get many options with the way EA's trying to control the process.

Kind of sucks they are getting rid of the friendly fire from the normal mode. Made you think more about where you were shooting and really think about where you were going to put down heavy fire from a tank or artillery.

At some point you got to focus your community - so that every mode on every setting gets enough action. Even though I agree, that I'd prefer to have friendly fire ON with either setting, I think it's a good compromise. The realism sticklers will get everything they want - Friendly Fire ON is part of that. And there is an audience for Friendly Fire OFF. God knows, sometimes I just can't take FF on with silly teamkillers and such. Depending on my mood, I will play both settings. I'll probably start any MP-session with 'Realism' settings, until I run out of patience with my teammates and go for normal settings.

On PC you'll surely be able to set the game however you want. Normal balancing and HUD with FF on - no problem. At least that's what I believe.
