    Overview

Battleship (also known as Battleship: The Classic Naval Warfare Game!) is a modern-military isometric real-time strategy game developed by NMS and published by Hasbro for Windows 95 computers in North America on September 30, 1996.

In addition to being a virtual adaptation of the Hasbro board game of the same name, Battleship features a revamped "Ultimate Battleship" mode where players manipulate multiple fleets of ships, aircraft, and submarines on a much larger game board, in real-time, with multiple missions and scenarios. Both versions of the game include LAN and online multiplayer support, with the Ultimate variant supporting up to four players.

    Fleets

Battleship features a unique point-based fleet configuration system, where players can customize their fleets of ships, as well as the positioning of these fleets, before the game begins. How many fleets each player has, as well as which type of fleet (Ship+Carrier or Submarine) and where the fleet itself can be placed, is determined by the mission chosen.

As the Classic variant is based solely on the board game, it only gives players access to one fleet of five ships regardless of points (Destroyer, Frigate, Missile Submarine, Battleship, and Super Carrier) and does not use each ship's weapons or abilities.

    Ships

    • Destroyer (30 points, 2 squares) - Medium Guns, Medium Missiles
    • Frigate (50 points, 3 squares) - Medium Guns, Medium Missiles, Torpedos, Mines
    • Cruiser (70 points, 3 squares) - Rapid Small Guns, Multi Head Missiles, Cruise Missiles
    • Battleship (170 points, 5 squares) - Medium Guns, Large Guns, Ultra Large Guns, Cruise Missiles

    Carriers

    • Light Carrier (100 points, 3 squares) - 1 Chopper, 1 Squadron
    • Standard Carrier (150 points, 4 squares) - 1 Chopper, 2 Squadrons
    • Super Carrier (200 points, 5 squares) - 1 Chopper, 3 Squadrons

    Submarines

    • Fleet Submarine (100 points, 3 squares) - Torpedos, Large Torpedos
    • Missile Submarine (150 points, 4 squares) - Submarine Cruise Missile, Torpedos

    Game Modes

    Practice

    • Classic - A strict adaptation of the original board game, Classic pits two players against each-other with no real-time strategy elements. Players only have one fleet of five pre-selected ships (which can be manually positioned around the fleet) and bombard the enemy fleet in simplistic turn-based fashion.
    • Clash At Sea - Standard elimination match with 1 fleet, intended to introduce basic ship combat. No Carriers are used for the default fleets. No Submarine fleets.
    • Air Superiority - Standard elimination match with 2-3 fleets, intended to introduce aircraft combat. No Submarine fleets.
    • Capture The Islands - Standard elimination match with 3-4 fleets, intended to introduce island bases and submarines. Each player starts on a corner of the board with a single base (two bases in the 2-player version), with a neutral base at the center (and two additional neutral bases in the 3-player version).

    World Domination

The game's standard elimination mode, where each player has five fleets at their disposal and the only objective is to wipe out all enemy fleets and be the last player standing. Unlike other modes, World Domination features multiple boards to choose from and allows the host player to determine the number of fleet points given to all players.
