Ok so as I understand it, Comstock is what DeWitt would become had he accepted God, and Booker is the opposite side of that coin. So how do the two exist simultaneously within the same reality? Like how Slate talks of DeWitt's prowess in the war at Wounded Knee, how did both versions of the same entity(being DeWitt) fight in the same war in the same reality?

@gontlet: They didn't. Wounded Knee happened before the baptism so regardless of whether he becomes Comstock or stays Booker, he was always there fighting beside Slate. However, in Dimension A Booker changes his name to Comstock following the baptism, so while the claims he makes about being at Wounded Knee are true, Slate does not recognize him under the new name and accelerated aging as a result of his experiments with tears.

The player's Booker comes from Dimension B. Because Comstock in Dimension A becomes sterile, the only way to have a child of his "own" is to steal Anna from himself in Dimension B. Booker gives Anna to Robert Lutece who is actually also originally from Dimension B but has been living in Dimension A. Anna joins Comstock in Dimension A and becomes Elizabeth, but gains her powers with her pinky stuck in Dimension B. Booker stays in Dimension B and drinks himself into a 19-year stupor.

After their "deaths" or transcendence into quantum beings, the Luteces drag DeWitt from Dimension B into Dimension A. Due to being displaced, Booker's mind struggles to form new memories to reconcile his presence, as signified by the periodic nosebleeds. With *not so* gentle nudging from the Luteces, his memories about Anna and erasing the debt are transformed into memories of a task he must now fulfill to rescue Elizabeth. So the entire game takes place within Dimension A, or an alternate branch of Dimension A. Booker and Anna/Elizabeth, however, are originally from Dimension B.

EDIT: And yeah, change the thread title and put a spoiler tag.

A - Spoilers of the game's twist right there for everyone to see. Oh well, it'll save em $60.

B - in this multiuniverse, it doesn't matter if 2 of the same person (from different universes) coexist at the same time. Look at the Luceces'. 2 of the same person coexisting. Also, Comstock DID fight in Wounded Knee. Slate just didn't know he was Dewitt.

Somebody change the thread title, this is uber spoilers.

The Booker you play as was brought to this universe by the Luteces. It's why he doesn't know about flying city of Columbia.

Yup, Columbia doesn't exist in his own world because he never got baptized.

I can understand not considering the title a spoiler, it has been well established that Bioshock Infinite will deal with alternate realities, given that tears are doorways through to alternate realities.

@gontlet: I really think you should delete the title of this thread. It spoils the game with the title.

The way I've seen it, the two Bookers existing in the same universe is contingent upon them not knowing that they are actually the same person. There were a couple of sequences when the tears first got introduced where we saw people that just sort of stood around, and I remember Elizabeth mentioning that they were aware of both realities. So I think that sort of cripples you in a way, hence why Booker's nose starts to bleed every time he gets close to remembering/realizing things about Comstock. If you remember both versions, you can't really make sense of either.

@sloc234: Comstock was fully aware that Booker was him from another dimension. That's the whole point to him stealing Anna from him. It was the only way to have a child that was still "his" despite the fact that he was sterile. Similarly Rosalind Lutece was fully aware of who Robert was after bringing him over, but Robert's memories gave him some difficulties. The confusion came from the fact that Booker and Robert were out of dimension. Comstock and Rosalind were 100% ok.

@starvinggamer: So do we know that 19 years passed in Booker's dimension before he was brought to Columbia? Clearly 19 years had passed in the Columbia that Booker was brought to, but theoretically the Luteces could have taken Booker from his dimension at any point in time after the Anna-grabbing.

Just a quick question, when exactly is dimension B Booker dragged into dimension A by the Lutecces? It's never shown in game (for good reason I guess) but is it while Booker is passed out drunk or something? I assume it is....

@killacam: It would appear so, as they would want to maintain chronological consistency and avoid overloading Booker's brain any further. That is why his memories rewire themselves to believe that Robert Lutece came to him in 1912, not 1893, offering to erase the debt. During the ending sequence Elizabeth mentions that after losing Anna through the portal, he drank himself into a 19-year stupor before stepping into Dimension A.

@vinny_says: The Luteces opened a portal in Booker's office and offered him a chance to rescue Anna. He went with them but was hit by trans-dimensional amnesia. He comes-to on the boat where Rosalind hands him the box with enough clues to push his mind in the right direction as it struggles to fill in the blanks with false memories.

Right, that makes sense. I guess I missed/forgot about that line due to all the mind-bending revelations.
