    Don't look behind you Jack!!!!!

I feel so sorry for the protagonist of Call of Cthulhu, Jack Walters poor bastard. He goes through hell and back, at one point during the game i was warned not to let Jack hold a load weapon in case he trys to kill himself. I don't blame him.

You see Mr Walters, is a very troubled man who's losing his sanity, and also happens to be stuck in the small fishing town of Innsmonth with some rather 'unfriendly' locals. Oh and by unfriendly i mean there hell-bent on killing him.

I don't want to go too much into the plot as its undoubtedly the strongest part of the game and i don't want to ruin it for you. The game itself is dark and the atmosphere is fantastic, i will openly admit i was frightened several times while playing the game, and the times you spend unarmed are very unnerving because you know you have zero defence against your persistent foes. You eventually get some fire power and i actually really enjoyed the combat, in some reviews i've read the combat is criticised a little, i found it very satisfying and brutal. The puzzles aren't too obscure and a bit of logical thinking will get you past most tricky situations.

The game does have a few shortcomings, its trail and error style can be a little frustrating but only a little, the graphics could have been a little more polished and the game is quite difficult. But if you, like me, find that you enjoy the story in the game you may well over look these minor problems.

Call of Cthulhu is different to any other game i've ever played, its a real shame more people didn't get the chance to enjoy it as well. If your looking for something different please try Call of Cthulhu, you won't regret it. But be warned, the game is definitely for a mature audience and children really shouldn't be playing it.

      At Best a Poor Man’s Half-Life 0

I didn’t enjoy most of the game, it was frustrating as hell, but I appreciate having played it. At best its a poor man’s Half-Life. That's a huge compliment coming from me, I’ve never played anything like Half-Life from any other developer. The fate of the developer (closed after this, their first xbox game) also illustrates the perils of creating a Half-Life like game without having the resources or experience of Valve Software. In HL, players just barely survive every puzzle, chase, or combat ...
