Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 has received a score 39 in the latest issue of Famitsu Magazine in Japan. The score was awarded to a subtitled version of the game, not a dubbed version which is to be released this December. In Japan, Modern Warfare 2 was localized by Square Enix who included full Japanese voice work in place of the English track, this didn't go down well with fans who appeared to value the authenticity of the game, more so than being able to understand the narrative completely.

I guess it must feel fresh to them, and other Japanese players. FPS's finally seem to be having some significant impact in Japan, and the audience seems to be appreciating this style of game.

The magazine have also rated BF3, which they gave the console versions a score of 9, 9, 9, 9.

Im not not trolling FFVII is the BEST game ever made and FFX is top 5. BUT all other games they have made copies those games theres nothing new from Japan.

You cant honestly say that Japan is a better game dev than the west at this time can you?

According to Famitsu, Modern Warfare 2 sold 106,000 copies on its launch day in Japan. 64,000 copies of which were from the Playstation 3 version, while the game was able to sell another 42,000 copies on the Xbox 360 side. Its release also saw 360 hardware spike.

In its lifetime, the game sold a little less than 200,000 units in Japan, which is all right I guess. However, when you compare that to just the first month sales in the US (not including the UK) -- more than 6 million copies copies on the PS3 and 360 combined -- that figure is not very impressive at all. I get your point about the review and sales and maybe I was over-exaggerating, but Japan sales dont really matter for FPS games. They are more like an added bonus.

Famitsu used to know what's up, how did this happen?

I can't wait to hear the stupid shit being said about Japanese developers and Japanese culture from the people in these forums who have likely never lived or even visited Japan and have no idea what they're talking about.

Japan enjoyed MW2 and Blops a bunch actually (even on the PC), with Square-Enix publishing and handling marketing I guess it's a given.
