REVIEW - Call of Duty: World at War (NDS)
Call of Duty: World at War (NDS) is the second COD game developed for the DS. Obviously, unlike Modern Warfare, World at War is set in World War II. So, is it worth buying, or should you just stick to COD4?
Call of Duty: World at War boasts LOADS of gameplay modes, there’s so much to do in the game, it’ll keep you interested for a long time. There’s FPS levels, Tank levels, Mortar sections, Turret parts, Plane levels, Anti-Air levels where you’re on a boat, and there’s a couple more too. A few of them were hard as hell, like the Anti-Air Boat parts, and the Tank levels, but they were all still pretty fun, and gave you a break from the sometimes monotonous FPS levels.
Altogether there’s 26 levels in the Campaign, and they usually take 3 or 4 tries each to pass each level, well at least for me. So, that’s around a 6-7 hour campaign. To extend the life of the game, there are many other modes you can mess around with, so that’ll keep you entertained for plenty more hours.
There’s so many other things you can do in the game, other than the Campaign mode. There’s Collectables that you know… can collect. You need 32, but so far I’ve only collected 16… because I’m lame. There’s also a Challenge mode with 30 different Challenges to complete, and even the first Level was pretty hard for me, so those will definitely take a while for people to finish. The game packs in so much stuff, the game is pretty much just oozing epicness.
Online Multiplayer. THERE’S ONLINE MULTIPLAYER! Online is definitely the best feature of most First Person-Shooters, and now that Call of Duty: World at War has it, it stands out among the pack of FPS’s on the DS. It’s not anything ridiculously over the top, 4 people can play simultaneously, in either a Team Deathmatch or a Deathmatch. There’s 11 maps to play, which is a very good amount, but unfortunately almost everybody chooses the Field stage. The service itself is absolutely great, and it’s definitely a great addition to the game. The only thing that’s wrong with it, is the douchebags that play it. Almost everybody on there has the words ‘Gangsta’, ‘Pro’, ‘1337′, or ‘Killa’ in their names, which is pretty pathetic, especially considering that they all suck hard at the game. Another cheap tactic that people use (considering that all of the maps are pretty small), is find the Rocket Launcher, wait in a corner (most likely crying and telling themselves that they’re good), and then shoot a rocket when somebody wakes up, killing themself in the process. Epic fail.
This game’s not COD4 gameplay in a WWII setting, it’s much, much deeper than that. There’s loads of new content, a longer storyline, updated graphics, more types of gameplay, and most importantly, an online mode. This is definitely a must-buy for anybody who loves FPS, COD, Multiplayer, or just fun games.
I give Call of Duty: World at War for the Nintendo DS, 4 stars out of 5.
