Techland's western shooter is arguably the best western game yet. 4

Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood is the story of Ray, Thomas, and William, who desert the Confederate army, seek ancient Aztec gold, and clash over a woman. They travel from lush southern fields and plantations to arid southwestern plains, creating a subtle, but effective variety of scenery. And what scenery it is - the game's settings are frequently stunning, showcasing wide open vistas, thick evergreen forests, and detailed (if sparsely populated) towns.   The story is another strong point in t...

    Yee Haw! 3

I did not like the first Call Of Juarez. I thought that the gameplay was too clunky and that the single player experience was marred by weak stealth sections and dumb climbing portions with the whiny Billy Candle. So imagine my surprise when I fired up Call Of Juarez: Bound In Blood and discovered that it is the game the first one should have been. The gameplay has been drastically improved in all the right ways. The story is more interesting, the shooting makes the game feel like a complete pro...

Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood Review 0

Call of Juarez shows of its beginnings in the new prequel: Bound in BloodWestern themed games have never gotten the same attention as modern day shooters or World War 2 games. Perhaps it's the unattractive and clumsy guns that turn people off, after all, who'd want a rusty ladies gun when you could be vaporising aliens with a Spartan Laser? But western games such as 2006's Call of Jurez shouldn't be dismissed so quickly. Both the locations and dialog of these 19th century themed games offer a lo...

How two men defeated all of America. 0

I feel as though I can count the number of Western-themed games with the fingers on my hand. And that I can count the number of noteworthy Western games made over the years with my genitals. While I’m glad that this shooter sub-genre doesn’t get as overpopulated as  the country of muscular space marines, it’d also be nice to get one truly great Western shooter that doesn’t feel like it’s merely hiding behind its theme to justify its impotency when being measured against the genetically stacked M...

COJ BiB nearly feels like a hollywood western, My DZ review 0

Videogames with a Western theme are pretty rare. What exactly goes on in a development studio when the team is thinking about designing a new first person shooter? No doubt loads of guys would shout out "World War 2", but what happens when some guy shouts out "Spaghetti Western"? Do the rest of the team look at him and think "Wha… what? Are you insane?" well luckily for us the team working at Techland, the guys from Poland who brought us games like Chrome and Xpand Rally, are giving us the plea...

I'm up for some Wild West! 0

Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood is a western-themed prequel to the original Call of Juarez. The game features great visuals that run surprisingly well on most modern PC’s, some fantastic setpieces, an interesting story that adds extra depth to the characters from the first game, and western-themed multiplayer which is a nice turn from modern shooters that seem to focus on global conflict. The only downside is that the singleplayer is a bit short – you can complete it in about 7 through 9 hours de...

Two Guns are Better than One 0

I've been a pretty staunch defender of the original Call of Juarez.  Despite it's somewhat rough appearance and some creative, but ultimately failed gameplay choices, it was a surprisingly fun and interesting romp through a tragically under-utilized setting in video games, the Old West.  Despite its somewhat limited appeal, apparently the cult following of the tale of Billy Candle and Reverend Ray warranted a sequel in the form of Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood.   By correcting many of the mista...

One of the Most Fun and Stylish FPS games this generation- 0

The Original Call of Jaurez was a sleeper hit that slipped over most peoples radars but was generally well recieved, the question is wheather Bound in Blood can continue that trend and become the definitive next-gen Wild West Game.In Short, Yes. Bound in Blood easily suprasses many modern shooters and presents a cohesive gaming package that anyone who is a fan of Good Shooters can enjoy. The Story of Bound in Blood goes into the origins of the Preacher in the first game by the name of Ray McCall ...

HIRTY PERCENT SHOOTING GUYS, SEVENTY PERCENT RELOADING! 0

THIRTY PERCENT SHOOTING GUYS, SEVENTY PERCENT RELOADING!The wild west, an almost mystical place these days. But once upon a time it was the breeding grounds for all sorts of legendary tales, the types of tales that were told around a nice warm camp fire or in your local cinema through the wonderful medium of moving pictures. Cinemas around the globe have at some point, showed a western or two. Infact the 1960's saw many great western related films with the fantastically named 'Spaghetti Western'...

a standard affair shooter with aspects that set it apart 0

Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood is a lot of things. The gameplay is pretty average with the exception of features like the slow-mo sequences, and character selection. The on rails parts break up the bulk of the game. The gameplay grows thin and by the end, but it ends in time before it starts to become tedious. The duration is about 6 hours to complete the story, although there are numerous side quests that can extend that to about 10 hours. In the end, it is the terrific voice work which can be ...

Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood 1

If you agree that there are not enough western based games, and  you just keep hoping that someday they will come out with one that has action, drama, and blood, then this is perfect for you. The game offers many unique missions, and unlike most games, you can ride and fight on horseback. And two things I like about it is that when you look down, you can actually see your characters legs. And, your characeter actually talks, unlike call  of duty or medal of honor. Before the game starts you can ...

    Pop some popcorn - It's time for a good Western (PS3) 0

I've been hungry for a good "western" themed game for years now.  And games of this genera are few and far between.  So, despite being cold on the original CoJ, I quickly purchased CoJ2: Bound in Blood the day it was released based solely on how great the graphics looked in trailer videos.   In the end, I was very please with how the game turned out. As a shooter, it's very competent and satisfying.  Mixed in with your standard shooter controls is "concentration mode" which slows down the action...

Making the wild west fun again. 0

The original Call of Juarez was met with good sales and reception, leading to a notable wild west game. Call of Juarez starred Billy Candle in his attempt to hunt down the gold of Juarez, a lost treasure that was to pay for Montezuma’s release. Unfortunately, he gets back home just in time to see his step-dad and mom dead, and for his step-uncle to walk in. His step-uncle, Reverend Ray McCall, assumes that Billy killed them and begins to hunt him down. Playing as both Billy and Ray, you wo...

Call of Juarez: Bound In Blood, a game for fans of the old west 0

It is hard to find a good first-person shooter that does something different these days.   A lot have come and gone, not leaving much of an impact in their wake.   Not too many have something new to bring to the table.   Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood may not be as impressive as, say, Modern Warfare, but that’s not to say it doesn’t have anything at all to offer.   It is one of the few games to take a stab at a time in history when gunfights weren’t measured by who has the better weapon, or who...

    Pretty decent 0

Playing and reviewing Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood after release of Red Dead Redemption is not fair thing. Especially when RDR is in every way better game than this. I don't have much recollection of the first Call of Juarez other than I know that I finished it. Call of Juarez 2 (COJ2) is a story driven first person shooter in a western skin. Game levels or chapter as the game calls them are mostly shooting waves of enemies. As well some stationary deference mission where you are controllin...

This game could really have been something special. 0

Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood, the 2nd western game developed by Techland is yet another attempt at making a solid western shooter. This game, while delivering on graphics, is very weak in every other aspect. The shooting just doesn't feel right at all, and the enemies get very hard in the later stages of the game. There were just too many moments of frustration that made myself hate this game more and more. While I appreciated the detailed graphics, just everything else just seemed very bland ...

    Mmm, spaghetti 0

You wouldn't expect it from "the major Polish games developer" but Techland's Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood nails everything that makes for a good spaghetti western, except for that first chapter. Being a modern action title I appreciate how the story starts at the end of the game and then retells how the brothers McCall got to that familial standoff. I even understand how turning my expectations on their head by starting out in Civil War Georgia is a great design choice but it came off as more...

A Solid shooter with a compelling western story 0

Having never played the first Call of Juarez, it was a relief to know that Bound in Blood was a prequel. Focusing on the antics of Thomas and Ray Mccall and their younger brother William the young priest always trying to guide his brothers from their murderous ways... Unsuccessfully. The game is a western in and out, it has a very compelling story that will drive you to the end just to see what happens. Also there’s great character development of the Mccall brothers, and the ending nicely connec...

Kool Moe Dee could have made a better game 0

It started out ok but it took a wrong turn with the same old FPS formula. The characters interactions were ok when they talked to each other but not during game play.   I am not a big co op player but this game should have been. The story would have changed a little but the overall game would have been better. I liked the high noon mini game it was one of the only parts of the game that I felt was made in the Wild West. The civil war piece at the beginning was not a great step forward. The game ...

A solid shooter made more exciting by its great setting. 0

It has become apparent over the years that games which follow a particular theme run the risk of being cheesy novelties that aren’t worth your time. But Techland’s Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood, the prequel to the western shoot-em-up released two years ago, is anything but cheesy. Stepping into the boots of Ray and Thomas McCall as they maraud through the southwest feels appropriately badass and radiates with attitude. This hard-boiled premise is nicely blended with cinematic gunplay that, al...

    Decent but flawed 1

This game is kind of all over the map. There are parts the work really well, other parts that almost work well, and large chunks where it falls flat on its face.I agree with Jeff's review that the story is one of the game's strongest points, but I still found it deeply flawed in many respects. I'm fine with having unlikable characters, but in the beginning I was supposed to sympathize with the two brothers - personally I have little sympathy for secessionist slave holders who have their humongou...

Short and Sweet: Dont buy this game, rent it beat it send it back.Game Length: six hoursStory and Environment:This is where Call of Juarez shines the unique feeling of the setting and environment of the Wild West is pretty well done and the voice acting in my opinion was pretty spot on excellent stuff and they nailed the Wild West. Whether its the pretty awesome back-drops of the sandy areas or the wild west towns, or the forests full with Indians the game really brings home the story and enviro...

Venturing into the Wild West 0

If anything Call of Juarez: Bound in  Blood is certainly an interesting game.First off, it's an entry into that oh so tiny brotherhood of games set in the wild west. I can't for the life of me think of a setting that is in need of more exploration. Its influence on popular culture is endless and there is a massive bounty of material to plumb for inspiration. Rockstar's forthcoming Red Dead Redemption looks to be the most ambitious, and if I had to venture a guess will be the best, Western gam...

The Band of Western Brothers 0

Bound in Blood Features many great Western Enviroments.Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood, as you might know, is a prequel to the 2006  game, Call of Juarez. This game explains the reasoning behind why Ray McCall became a reverend and decide to put down his weapons. We also get to see more about Thomas McCall and how he and his brother dealt with the war and the negative events that occurred in their life. What you get with this game is a solid story backed up with satisfying gameplay, alongside som...

    Inglorious Bastards 0

Bound in Blood, was a surprise for me, i played and loved the original Call of Juarez when it came out, technical issues aside that game was a great look into a genre we don't see very often. Though with its overall poor critic response and underwhelming sales, i never thought a sequel would be made but here we are. Bound in Blood builds upon and improves on almost every aspect of the original, from a riveting revenge story, great graphics, and easy but satisfying game play.    The Story beg...
