Overview
Chameleon, known in Japan as Kuru Kuru Chameleon and in earlier European versions as Kameleon, is a turn-based versus puzzle game developed and published by Starfish for the PlayStation Portable in Japan on January 19, 2006, with a version for Europe (by 505 Game Street) on November 10, 2006 and a version for North America (by UFO) on May 5, 2008. It later received a digital release on July 2010.
Based on the 1991 computer game 7 Colors (specifically the PC-98 version from HOT-B, as Starfish acquired their licensing), Chameleon is a two-player game where each player attempts to take control of the majority of the multi-colored game board (or the majority of objective tiles) by building up their territory through changing their tiles' color to match adjacent tiles. Unlike the original's diamond-shaped tiles, this adaptation uses hexagonal tiles. It also features a fantasy anime art style, with players choosing from four sisters (each with their own unique power-ups).
The game was also ported to arcades (exclusively in Japan using Dreamcast-based Sega NAOMI hardware) and the Nintendo DS (with the Japanese version having the name Kuru Kuru Chameleon DS) in that year. It was later ported by Joyfulstar as digital releases for both the Nintendo Switch (on November 26, 2019) and PC (on January 6, 2020).
