    Overview

When one runs out of credits while playing an arcade game, the player is in most cases greeted with the sight of a continue countdown screen. When it appears, the player only has a limited amount of time to insert more money into the machine in order to continue from where he or she left off. Should the countdown reach zero, the game ends and a new game must be started when coins are inserted.

Many arcade titles that have been ported to home consoles have retained this particular element, despite its lack of necessity.
