Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

The original team-based modern-military first-person shooter, now in its fourth iteration, gets rebuilt for competitive play circa 2012, featuring new maps, weapons, gameplay mechanics, and game modes.

Concepts

Bomb Defusal Mode

A mode in which one team plants a bomb at a designated location and the other tries to defuse it. Traditionally this is a no-respawn mode.
Counter-Terrorists

Counter-terrorists fight terrorists wherever they are found. These courageous fighters are highly disciplined and skilled in their profession.
E3 2012

First-Person Perspective

First-Person is a vantage point that attempts to simulate looking through a game character's eyes. It is most commonly found in First-Person Shooters and Racing Games, and to a lesser extent in other genres, such as RPGs and 3D Platformers.
Gun Game

A gameplay mode seen in some online multiplayer shooters where for each kill, the current gun held is changed to a higher tier gun. The first player to get a kill with each weapon wins.

Hostages exist to be saved, guarded, and occasionally executed.

Humans are bipedal, sapient primates capable of abstract reasoning, language, and emotions.
Keyboard and Mouse Support for Consoles

So you can smoke those chumps playing with a controller.
Kill Feed

A standard in nearly all competitive online shooters, the Kill Feed is the live on-screen update of the kills in an multiplayer game, providing updates as to whom is killing whom, as well as other important events.
No Respawn

Some game modes don't allow the player to respawn once killed, forcing them to think strategically and to try to stay alive.
Novint Falcon Support

A USB haptic mouse replacement peripheral. The name comes from the fact that the falcon is the predator of the mouse.

RMT's are the concept of spending real money, for items within a game, common to the free to play market
Retail Games with Steam Activation

Some games bought at physical stores and online retailers can be activated on Steam using its CD key. Some come with compulsory Steam activation, while for others it is optional.
Source Engine

Valve Corporation's proprietary game engine that debuted in summer 2004 with Counter-Strike: Source and later that same year with Half-Life 2.
Special Forces

Elite and specially trained/equipped military troops and law enforcement tasked with carrying out specific and dangerous/sensitive objectives beyond the remit of regular military personnel. Many games feature special forces operators or units as protagonists or enemies.
Steam

Steam is a digital distribution service owned by Valve. Originally created to distribute its own games, Steam has since expanded to become the de facto standard for digital distribution of PC games, and supports community features, downloadable content and achievements. Starting 2010, Steam now offers Mac games as well.
Steam Play

Steam Play is a feature introduced by Valve that allows for Steam games bought on one platform to be downloaded onto any other, be it Windows, MAC or Linux. In some cases it also allows for cross-platform multiplayer.
Steam Trading Cards

Steam Trading Cards is a built in feature in the Steam client. It lets users collect cards from certain games and trade them and receive rewards for complete sets.
Steam Workshop

A website where you can submit, find, rate, and download new content and modifications for some Steam games.
Subtitles

The option to display dialog and other information with text on screen.
Teamplay

Multiple teams featuring more than two or more players, compete against each other. At the end of a game, one team is declared the winner.
