    A Diamond in the Rough

I had recently had a chance to sit down and spend some time with the recently released Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core.  Dispite my inial reaction to the game, which I absolutlly hated.  First reaction was "what is this?"  I thought they took my favorite RPG and soiled it.  Despite being turned off from it intially, I forge on and forturnatly for the better.   At first glance CC comes off like an button mashing aciton game.  I, myself, got stuck in some of the missions modes and assumed that was all it was.  One boring ass mission after another.  Turns out they are really just a means of leveling and finding hidden content.  On 2nd glance, me likes.  I found the story mode, and charged forward.  And guess what I liked, I liked it a lot.

Its been said before but the game does a great job of merging a new story line with that overlaying the of the prequal.  It paints a great picture for what follows in the RPG.  It also doesn't hurt that the cimitacs are beautiful.  On par with that of a PS2 game if not above, since its technically a higher resolution in a small screen.  The game play is acttually believe it of not is an RPG, closer to that of Kingdom Hearts.  The only draw back I had was it was all focused around Zack, no parties.  Bummer.

All in all, great game.  Once you get use to the real time combat/RPG it's a lot of fun.  If you liked the orginal you should grab this one .  If you had not played the orginal RPG it may still be worth a play through provided you like RPG's and beautiful cimimatics.

It's success was outstanding, selling close to 10 million copies, and it still remains the best selling Final Fantasy game. Due to its popularity, Square Enix responded by creating the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII; a series of prequels and sequels to the game that made them a world wide phenomena. For the most part, each new title was fairl...
