I have solved the Dark Souls website glyph puzzle

#1 Edited by benjaebe (2782 posts) - 2 years, 9 days ago

Huzzah! After an hour or two and a load of berating messages from From Software, taunting me every step of the way, I finished. Shortly after I received an email that gave me a random number and told me the following.

Congratulations, great knight! You have proven yourself worthy by arranging the glyphs in the correct order.

For your perseverance, you are awarded this Key that will unlock a well-earned advantage during your journey toward reclaiming your soul!

The glyphs on the back ground

#5 Posted by benjaebe (2782 posts) - 2 years, 9 days ago
@The_Laughing_Man: Yeah it's randomly generated.

 Tips:
Glyphs are random each time.
You get a few misclicks at first (up to 3), but eventually only one after you've found 7 or 10 glyphs.
If you refresh the page before you guess incorrectly too many times, then you can keep the same glyph order puzzle.
This lets you more or less go one at a time through process of elimination.

Just found out the refresh trick. Gonna work on this tonight after work. Need a pencil and paper.

You cheesed an online puzzle!? Surely this is the point when you realise it's gone too far?

@vestigial_man: Probably has gone too far, yeah.

I've heard the keys might be limited, so best of luck to anyone going for it.

I did it. It took a long, long time and was tedious as hell, but I fucking did it.

Whatever that code unlocks had better be good.

I finally solved it, then looked at the clock and realized I put over 2 hours into this. I'm a glutton for puzzles. I would have spent an insane length of time trying to solve it if needed.

"Cheating way to solve glyph puzzle (skip if you want to solve through trial and error):

Using Chrome
Go to developer tools
Go to console tab type "mg" in console and press enter
One object will show up, open object, open settings, open solveKeys
Copy those keys to notepad
Go to elements tab in tool
Type gly-# in search
Hover over element it selects - element will also be highlighted on the page
Click that glyph on the page
Repeat for all 30 keys

You win first try.
This can also be done in firefox if you have the firebug plugin, have fun."  hope this helps you guys as I was screwed over by the puzzle before I tried this.

#18 Posted by benjaebe (2782 posts) - 2 years, 9 days ago
@Stonebubble: I knew about that method too, but that takes all the fun and challenge out of it. Where's your Demons Souls spirit!
#19 Posted by Stonebubble (4 posts) - 2 years, 9 days ago
@benjaebe:  don't worry lol I solved it too but in order to get another code (my wife will play too) I cut to the chase and cheated.  Clearing a cache isn't in the spirit of Dark Souls and it's not fun.  My spirit of Dark Souls in stuck in the Nexus remember lol

Your wife. Wants to play Dark Souls.

Now here's a silly question.  Where the hell is the site?

#22 Posted by onarum (1805 posts) - 2 years, 9 days ago

This is not much of an puzzle and more of a pure luck thing... I don't see any way of beating this other than cheating (refreshing before tries run out).

Thank god for that. I messed up on the 20th glyph and it was getting real tedious.

I don't get it. Are we supposed to "cheat" by refreshing? Otherwise it will take years, but even with refreshing it takes hours.
#25 Posted by Terry_Bogard (302 posts) - 2 years, 8 days ago

Woop! I did it.. It took like an hour, but I had nothing better to do anyway.

#26 Posted by Rayeth (904 posts) - 2 years, 8 days ago

Chrome to the victory again!

Should be interesting to see what comes of it.  Day 1 Free DLC item maybe?  Who knows.
#27 Posted by Filthy_Man_DF (7 posts) - 2 years, 8 days ago

Got my code today!

#28 Posted by pigmartyr (211 posts) - 2 years, 8 days ago

is it sad that i installed chrome to get this done faster?

#29 Posted by Stonebubble (4 posts) - 2 years, 8 days ago
@Grissefar:  yep, my wife, she plays God of War, Demon Souls, and DarkSpore.  She is the manager at Gamestop so yeah I won the wife lottery lol grats to all that solved the puzzle :D
#30 Posted by Juxt (5 posts) - 2 years, 7 days ago

I got locked out at 24. Will the puzzle change next time I try?

#31 Posted by quicksand31 (70 posts) - 2 years, 7 days ago

I got locked out yesterday and I went back to try again today, but I don't see any glyphs.  Did I do something terribly wrong?

yeah, same thing happened to me so I had to clear my browser cookies to be able to try it again, but by doing that it created another random combination of glyphs.. so I just used firebug to cheat and solve it already.

You don't need to use Chrome to cheat the game. You can paste the following javascript into your address bar once the game loads, after the age verification:

I got it wrong so i will try again tomorrow!

Never mind.

Just found this in one of the JavaScript scripts used on the page. Thought it was kinda funny.

Just wanted to drop in and say I just noticed this glyph thing today, and louiedog's little javascript trick works wonders. They've actually since removed the solveKeys setting from mg.js, so this is really your only surefire way to get it done (and also the most convenient. Also, yes, codes are still being given out for whatever purpose. Thanks!
