Dead Island: Riptide is a 3D survival horror action RPG developed by Techland and published by Deep Silver for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC on April 23, 2013. It is a direct sequel to Dead Island, continuing the events from the previous game with an improved version of the original game engine (including new weapons, vehicles, characters, gameplay, menu UI, and weather effects).

Set right after a band of four survivors (Australian former Sydney police officer Purna, American former professional quarterback Logan, Chinese special forces officer Xian Mei, and American rapper Sam B), immune to the zombie plague, escaped the island of Banoi, players take control of one of them (or a new survivor that's immune to the plague, American soldier John Morgan) as they crash-land on the tropical zombie-infested island of Palanai. From there, they must prevent the weaponization of the undead infection by civilian V.I.P. Frank Serpo.

The game allows players to import characters from the previous game.
