"Better with Kinect"
BUTTONS ARE SO HARD TO PUSH NNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGHHHHHH
So much development time spend for this...so much time....
The only bad thing about this is that everybody will blame the Kinect for any other shortcomings the game has, as if game development is an RTS where developers have to choose between "quality game", "game with multiplayer component", or "game with optional Kinect functionality", and they only have enough units to build one of the three.

Serious Question, as I just came into possession of a Kinect, what games ARE better with Kinect?
None. I did use the Mass Effect 3 voice stuff for a while, but living with other people judgmental assholes, yelling nonsense at the TV is frowned upon.
Finally! Man pushing the X button to reload was such a pain in the ass!! In all seriousness it's just a simple feature. I actually think the find objective one will be quite useful since that "find __" thing became crowded in Dead Space 2.
Funny thing: It's EXACTLY like that. The RTS genre was originally invented to emulate game development. The only bad thing about this is that everybody will blame the Kinect for any other shortcomings the game has, as if game development is an RTS where developers have to choose between "quality game", "game with multiplayer component", or "game with optional Kinect functionality", and they only have enough units to build one of the three.
"Use stasis!" is so much better than pressing a button, isn't it? Actually it can be pretty funny when the speakers of my surround sound initiate a command and I end up lobbing a grenade in a game like Mass Effect 3.
This kind of functionality should've died out around about the time when people realised voice recognition software is more of a hassle than writing the damn letter by hand :P This reminds me of when Skyrim got Kinect voice commands.. I had a discussion with a friend of mine who is quite pro-Kinect implementation. His viewpoint was that it's totally cool that you can shout "Fus Roh Dah" at your TV and have it happen in the game, and mine was that hearing my scrawny white boy voice saying "Fus Roh Dah" isn't going to help draw me into the mindset of my character. After about 10 minutes we just agreed to disagree since it became crystal clear that those who will use features like that will use them and enjoy them, and those who don't want to don't have to. I doubt such implementation draws much energy away from the core game development. Voice recognition software is old news now and development on big AAA games like this tend to have a bunch of studios all collaborating all towards the same end, so it can't have taken that many people or man hours away from the project to add this functionality to the game, so I doubt it'll hurt the game in any noticable way.

I'm sorry ;___;
Allow me to rephrase my previous post...

Better? (:
I wasn't interested in Dead Space 3, but now, after seeing that this guy is wearing a hoodie and a leather jacket at the same time, I feel like this game really speaks to me and my demographic.

Interesting. Got a source?
I agree, but I doubt it will work 100% of the time. I don't know about you, but I'd rather take the chance and stop aiming for a split second to make sure I heal or whatever by using an actual tactile button instead of hoping that the Kinect understands what I'm trying to say.thats fucking brilliant your voice essentially becomes a context sensitive button
Now you can actually keep your thumbs on the control sticks (which is btw how shooters should have worked since last gen but still havent)
Who gives a shit? You aren't forced to use it and the additions actually are pretty cool for a console shooter - if they actually work most of the time.
Sure, I ain't exactly hot with the direction this game took, but yeah. Kinect voice integration isn't really that demanding, so it's not like they spent half a year of development time to do this shit.
N...no..? What? Are you kidding?@MariachiMacabre said:

They wasted all those valuable resources. Squandered them! Also the moment you put it into your 360 it will force you to use Kinect. The Kinect will tell you to stand up and the make fun of your wardrobe in front of all your friends. It's going to be fucking hell for everyone and Kinect apologists simply don't want to see common sense. I mean, not using it is fine too, but it's THERE so we SHOULD be outraged.

not working 100 percent of the time is still a better prospect having being able to turn + melee 0 percent of the time! or move and switch weapon 0 percent of the time! or turn + grenade 0 percent of the time! even 98 percent is way higher than 0!
Besides if the Kinect doesnt hear you wasn't it probably your fault? Meaning you can practice and get better at using Kinect features (having to get better at a game?! omg) technically making it a matter of skill. (omg what)
Really? We're doing this again. I think the Bombcast's bit on the Halo: Combat Evolved Kinect support entirely applies here, it doesn't make sense to get bent out of shape about an optional feature. Once again it's not enough for some people in the gaming community that we have a features they do like in the game, it also can't include features that others might enjoy but they wouldn't, even if it's entirely their choice whether to use them. The bit in the trailer where it was suggested that it's a chore to use buttons was pretty dumb, but come on, we know Kinect isn't really supported here because Visceral's professional designers think buttons are a bad way of interfacing with a game.
I see people concerned about the time and money that has been put into developing it, and I get that to a degree, but I would like to point out that with the amount this game has to make to break even, a small development budget is likely to be the last of their problems, and as I understand it Microsoft give Visceral and other studios implementing Kinect support additional development money anyway so this actually works to their financial advantage. Either way, it's all a little silly because few people seem to care nearly as much about how a new feature in a game could mean wasted time and resources, as when that feature is Kinect.

Skyrim was.
Being able to switch weapons, spells and perform all your shouts with you voice instead of "pause, swap, pause, swap, pause, swap" was kind of awesome.

So much marketing BS "you don't have to fumble around with the controls" HOW IS HITTING THE X BUTTON FUMBLING AROUND?
You have to let go of thumbstick. Honestly no shooter should use any face button or dpad at all.
For a split second, it doesn't impair your ability to play the game at all, on any difficulty, I should know I did it on hardcore for some stupid reason.
Multiplayer I can see it making a difference, but if you are that serious about it you probably should be playing PC games, I don't think any console shooters have enough skill to them for it to matter.
The things I actually want voice commands for rarely get used for that. Which is to say, I think voice commands can alleviate the annoying shit of menus. "Inventory, Sniper Rifles" and go directly to the sniper rifle page. Using voice commands in Mass Effect to avoid bringing up the radial menu, keep the action going. Voice commands shouldn't be there to save a single button press; reload, stasis, jump, those can be handled with buttons. But used to save several button presses, scrolling through menus, so on; absolutely. Skyrim's 'favorites' menu and inventory slows down the game. "Equip fire, equip healing, equip sword and shield".

You are using double edged logic.. if letting go of thumbstick for a second is hindrance only "if you are that serious about it" but in that case voice commands is only a hindrance "if you are that serious about it".
Also the fact you're saying it's ok because it's on console is hilarious to me. So why is anyone complaining about the Kinect voice commands then? If you say they are scrubby console players, they shouldn't care about whether the controls are good or not.
Oh wait you're not even being apologetic about it, you literally just came out and bashed console gaming. xD
In that case, fair enough! I can agree that anyone complaining about the voice commands is a hypocrite for playing using gamepads to begin with.. but I'd go further and saying the people criticizing are holding back improvement... especially if the voice commands are OPTIONAL.
