wanting it to be a survival horror, or at least just a scary game? I know that's one of the main things people want and are complaining about, but I'd like to talk about other things you may want when going into this, and hope happens. For me personally, right now, I know every story can't end happy, but I at least hope Ellie and Isaac both make it out alive, and if anyone is to die (for the greater good), it be Carver, but I don't say that because he's a newcomer and I'll care for him less, well, at first I do, but I hope he's fleshed out well so in the end if he does die, you'd care for that and feel a little sad.

I think Isaac has been through enough already, that's not to say I hope this is the last game if it turns out to end making you believe there's going to be another one, but still, no Isaac and Ellie dying would be nice. I also hope for a great setting, which looks to be the case so far. It is a little bit Lost Planet-like, but I think in the end it'll turn out to be just as fantastic a view as the rest. The other thing is, the human A.I. looked pretty bad on the E3 demo, so I hope they make that better, it'll be acceptable when a necromorph enters the body, but not when it's a human. Anyways, I'll add more later, but those are the things I just had on my mind. how about you? This can't be "I hope the game is scary, or I'll hate it!" OK, it can, but that's a little tiresome by now.

Coming back and reading this - Ugh. Terrible.

On that icy planet I want one dude to give another dude chest compressions and then I want that dudes chest to split open and eat the other dudes arms.

Honestly though I just want the excellent pacing from Dead Space 2. Action sections are great but I want them broken up into small bites and mixed in with the horror.

I actually popped in Dead Space 2 last night. Fucking awesome, although at this point I'm dominating those assholes. It's like people who play original RE five times and are just hosing fools and beating it in 2 hours.

I want DS3 to be as cool as DS2. Probably will technically be better, but the big improvement always comes in the second game. Third games are practically never the best game in the series. I feel like its the second 7 times out of 10.

Well, I want Ellie to be in the game. I mean I know she's in it but I don't want her to be killed off at the beginning. Let's not turn this into Alien 3 shall we. They seem to be using ideas from The Thing, one of my favorite movies, and I would love for them to go far with that. What if there was a Necromorph that you didn't even know was a Necromorph? You could have some great opportunities to mess with the players with stuff like that.

@JeanLuc: Yeah, Carver is that necromorph, and he's the final guy because he's actually the Hive Mind... Just kidding. Yeah though, I agree about Ellie, hopefully she'll be in it more than just "Oh, well we have to go through this game and find her." Unless they both survive at the end, then OK.

I hope everyone dies except Issac and Carver and as they sit amidst the smoking ruins of the base on the snowy planet, they pass a bottle of scotch back and forth eyeballing each other, waiting to see who turns into a necromorph first.

    Fade to black.

    The end.

Well, if this is anything like the last few levels of Dead Space 2 then it can fuck right off. I hope that it isn't like the last few levels of Dead Space 2, but it's already been labeled a shooter by some, so I will assume I have no hope.

The more it steers away from the horror clichés and the more it gets into Uncharted territory and the more I'll enjoy it. I want scares, I want gore, but I also want heart-pumping action. Dead Space is clearly not a '' survival '' horror type of game, especially with its impressive gun selection, tools and armors. And i'm fine with that. But it can be an horror action game, and that's what I want it to be.

Great pacing, great atmosphere and great shooting. That is what the Dead Space games do well (2 in particular). I'd be more than fine with them just refining those elements even more, since their "scary" moments are very predictable.

Without getting too picky I just want them to do what they did with regards to Dead Space 1 to Dead Space 2, they changed things but made an extremely improved game because of those changes. If they can do that again, then I'm sure Dead Space 3 will be all kinds of awesome, oh, and give us a damn survival mode this time!

@Svenzon That's almost the fun. I was yelling at monsters as they popped out, "BWAAAARRGGHH!" and sometimes I would yell at vents with no monsters in them. My roommate enjoyed it muchly.

I did the same, except with a friend who's extremely easily scared and would jump out of his seat. We were talking over Xbox Live once while he played Dead Space. I asked what part he was at and as he went "I'm at some place where you gotta-" and I'd interrupt him with "OH SHIT BEHIND YOU!". He hated me so muchly (totally gonna use that word from now on) for that.

You know what I just thought about? The whole co-op thing. I kind of think now that they intentionally didn't insert split-screen (even if it was a good idea) because they thought "Well, the only way you can play with your friends is if you and your friend both buy copies = more money for us!" And, well. That sucks in a way.

I know i'm late to the party... but I just saw this http://www.giantbomb.com/dead-space-3/61-38270/dead-space-3-eudora-gameplay-walkthrough/35-561865/#5 and thought I should join in :P:

You guys suck! Elie has to live! That was like the one thing I felt was accomplished from the DS2 story, everything else was fucked. It kind of sucks she is back to be honest, I would have liked to think that no matter what happens in DS3, we saved her in DS2 so she is fine and something is alright... but now she is obviously back so she can get killed off. Heck I don't even trust her anymore if she is back for the third one... she will either die or betray us(and then die).

Yeah i did, and parts of it do look pretty awesome. But yeah, i'm just not feeling it this time around. What i loved about the first two games, was the feeling of solidarity, Dead Space 3 doesn't seem to enforce that feeling. I think it was a pretty vital part of what made the first two games, especially Dead Space great.

I just want it to be as fun as Dead Space 2 was and still have the same amount of creepiness/scariness that parts of 2 had and 1 was great at. I don't want to shoot at other guys who have guns and I don't want to take cover in a Dead Space game, just not what I go to those games for.

    I want more Dead Space.

Really, there's not a ton of things in Dead Space 2 that I can think of to improve. I do not think that 3 will be as good as 2, but don't let that make you think I'm one of those naysayers. No, I think it will be a great game, just not as great as Dead Space 2 was. Chances are, it will be more great pacing with more fantastic moments and more ugly-ass monsters that jump out at you occasionally.

Throw my sentiments in for Ellie being a major character. She hasn't been shown in much of the promotion thus far, but I'd like to see her play just as big a role in 3 as she did in 2.

@gamefreak9: Why do people suck, 'cause no one mentioned Ellie? I agree, Ellie needs to live. Dead Space does in fact do the whole betrayal thing more times than needed, while I liked it in Dead Space 2, I thought it was a little cliche that Diana would turn but I know for a fact that Ellie won't be a character to do it. She may die, but I don't think she will. Isaac and Ellie have been through enough; I think if one does die though, it'll be because of some kind of sacrifice, that's how it goes with a story like this I think.

@pornstorestiffi: Don't tell me it's just because of the horror aspect. They are keeping horror intact, whether it's scary or not, but the thing is, Dead Space has never been just about the horror, it does many great things, and I think this game won't be any different. The way I see it is that if they can keep it fun and have everything else that I love about Dead Space, but took the horror aspect out, I'd still love it. The game in the very least will still be intense in spots.

P.S. Never mind, I didn't catch what you had to say about solidarity. I can't say that you will like it because it's still of high quality with what it's doing, because you may just not care, since it may or may not have what interests you, but I still think that it being high quality should warrant you giving it a look.

@kerse: I imagine the cover system or rolling will be something you choose to do if you want to, rather than mandatory, at least most of the time, but then again, if they can make it work, would it bother you that much? What happens if you had to do it, and it adds to the intensity? As for the other humans, I kind of agree, but there will be many times when you have to fight both human and necromorph at the same time, and the necromorph will kill the humans by turning them into one of them.

@believer258: One of the problems with Dead Space 2, which I believe was the cause of making it less scary, wasn't because you shoot more necromorphs, but it was because the way things are set up in it that make it so enemy placements aren't random. There was also a lack of necromorphs utilizing any vents that were in the game, and there was just a simple lack of vents for them to go in. In Dead Space, that's what made it scary, you didn't know after you fought a few if or when another would pop out either right in front of you, or in back of you silently if afar, or loudly near you.

In the original, you could almost always be surprised by one sneaking up on you because of not actually finishing them off, and yet the music has died down and everything that would indicate one being near by. I know my reply wasn't entirely relevant to your comment, but when you said "more ugly-ass monsters that jump out at you occasionally" it sparked what I wanted to say here.

    @NTM:

TBH I thought DS2 was just as scary as DS1, it was just that I had learned to shoot the monsters while they were on the floor. So dead space 2 is more like the second two thirds of dead space 1, where you had learned to properly position yourself. I don't think I died in DS1 after the first couple of chapters, and I probably died 10 times total in the DS2(on the harder difficulty). So unless they can introduce a weird new element of surprise, I don't see the first third of DS1 coming back.

@gamefreak9: What I had to say wasn't that Dead Space 2 was entirely void of horror or scary moment, and I think it's perfectly valid if someone were to believe it's just as scary, but for me at least, and I know others as well just didn't think it was all that scary compared to the first; I was just giving the reason as to why I believe it was that way. I would also say that, when you are talking about Dead Space being in thirds, it isn't until the third of that game that its scariness starts to stale a bit, though that's about all that has less of an effect. I would say from personal experience, in its entirety, Dead Space 2 never reaches the tense moments quite like the original. There have only been moments that had worked in Dead Space 2, and they don't always work. I'm not saying Dead Space 2 is worse for it though, not at all.

@NTM: I don't know man, I thought the sequence that had you back on the Ishimura was extremely tense for me. I don't think Dead Space 2 was inherently "less scary", but I believe the fact that the shooting was more developed and you were better able to defend yourself created a sense that you were less helpless and made you feel more powerful, thereby eliminating some of the fear.

I Really enjoyed Deadspace 1 and 2 , so I hope they try to keep the creepy tone of the game and keep the same level of action without going TOO resident evil.

@Subjugation: I don't think it has anything to do with your movements or what weapons you had, I really believe it was enemy placements. Play the original, and then play two again, you'll notice a difference. That part you're talking about was awesome to me, but not because it was scary, not at all. In two, the enemies are far more predictable, and it made the effect of fearing something around the corner or behind you vacuous, while in the original, you would at times want to look in back of you because you'd fear there may be something creeping around.

I can't say the game is factually less scary, I'm just saying, for me at least, that's the reason I believe it's less scary, and I don't believe it's because it has anything to do with shooting a certain amount of necromorphs and the way you can do it. I also don't know what you mean by defending yourself other than a couple of aspects, and that's how you can melee faster and being able to rip body parts off of your enemies and shoot it at others, but I think that has little to nothing to do with making it less scary. I should also add that in the first Dead Space, you can cheat by having infinite rig telekinesis.

I'm just saying, comparing hard on both games, for me, Dead Space is far more tense throughout than two. There have been sections that had made me feel uneasy, but then at that same moment on my next play-through, I wouldn't feel the same way; it was inconsistent. I want to remind you, as I've done before, when I'm saying this it makes it sound like I'm being negative towards the game, but I'm not. When I say in Dead Space 2 the horror aspect is 'worse', I don't really mean that the game is docked because of it.

If Dead Space 2 was scary to you, that's great, but it wasn't to me for the most part, certainly not when compared to the first.

Turns out the necromorphs are just mis-understood and now you get to fight along side them. And that ladies and gents is how you ruin an entire series.

Seriously though, I understand how this preview thing works and I know they aren't going to show the slow parts of the game at press conferences and such. I trust the game will be mixed right by the mixologists at visceral games. One thing I do want is for ellie not to die, way to many games are killing off great characters these days :(

I just...don't want another great horror series to get actionized into shit. But I'm afraid that may happen.

@Garris: No, I don't want to get into it, but I don't like that movie, and when it comes to quality, I've always liked to compare DS and DS2 to Alien and Aliens. I just think Dead Space as games are closer to Alien and Aliens in quality, while Event Horizon as a film is of less quality than Dead Space are as games.

@Vinny_Says: Agreed. I've showed this concern to Visceral, from what their response to me was made it seem like they had no intention to do it, but I could be wrong. Ellie and Isaac must have a happily ever after story, everyone else can die. Ouch, just kidding.

@spankingaddict: While it's Visceral's game (and they are a fantastic game company) it's also EA, so it was probably either that or multiplayer, and co-op which focuses on the story I'd take any day over competitive play. I'm fine with it, it also lends to more interesting experiences beyond just the single player campaign, so if you wanted to experience something a little different from what you've already done after the solo play, you can try co-op, which I think some may find enticing. My only problem with it is that it's not splitscreen... yet.

@MariachiMacabre: I don't share your concern since I believe Dead Space has always had more than just the horror, but I understand your concern. I think for those that are skeptical should still give it a try, 'cause Dead Space still has more to offer than just it being a horror game. Dead Space isn't a franchise that has a one-trick pony, and I find it disappointing that people treat it that way, even though I do understand that they'd be a little put off by a game changing something they love. Plus, Dead Space 3 isn't eliminating the horror aspects altogether, though whether it works like in the past is different.

The logical narrative continuation of this franchise requires that it has less and less of what I want out of it with each entry, as long as it insists on maintaining the same protagonist with each game.

I typed up a ton of text elaborating on that thought, but decided to spare you all. In short, I hope it's a fun action game, I guess.

I kind of want Journey's co-op mechanics but that's asking for to much I guess.

@NTM: I was more referring to the hallucinations in Event Horizon and Dead Space more than anything, But ya I definetly see the parallels between alien and aliens, and DS1 and Ds2.

I just want Dead Space 3 to retain that claustrophobic and isolation feel from the previous games. And the Survival Horror bit.

Resident Evil 6 was a sheer disappointment. Don't fail us, Visceral Games.

@ThePhantomStranger: I haven't played Journey, but hearing about it, I don't think Dead Space 3 could have that same effect unless it was all co-op. Since you don't have to play the campaign cooperatively, you'd always know if you're playing with someone else, unless perhaps they made it like Gears of War where someone can chive in at any time but the game simply didn't tell you if someone came in to play with you.

    @Garris: Alright, never mind than.

I want one of the characters to be completely fucking insane and seeing shit that isn't there, and that's the reason split-screen isn't there. Like, just imagine playing as Isaac and the other dude just unloads on a fucking chair for absolutely no reason but he's freaking out because he thinks he's being dragged by a tentacle.

Also the game to be good, but hey that's too much to ask from EA.

That's a batshit insane idea and I love it. His condition would have to really deteriorate over time too. That would be crazy in the best possible way.

You could do a lot of things with it too, especially if they chose not to correlate the actions completely. So on one dude's screen he'd be running like a bat out of hell because he thinks there's an air leak and his oxygen is counting down, but the other player doesn't see anything wrong because in reality everything's fine. Or one player could experience a gravity failure and start jumping off walls, but to the other player they're just spinning in the fetal position, shooting at the ceiling.
