    It was announced that CBS Films is looking to make a movie based on the latest release in the Deus Ex franchise, Human Revolution. The movie is being produced by Adrian Askarieh (Hitman, Kane & Lynch) and Roy Lee (The Ring, The Grudge, The Departed, Quarantine).

    What I find more interesting than the fact that they are making a movie of this would be the fact that CBS FILMS is making it. Seriously, because CBSi picking up Giant Bomb and Twitch TV as well as having that deal with MLG, it seems like CBS as a company overall is doing it right with games.

    Now...given that Gary Whitta is a friend of Giant Bomb, is there a chance that he could be in the running to write the film solely because of association? I would be MORE than okay with that. = D

    Also, I should point out that the Gametrailers link has the original Variety press release on this, which points out that Human Revolution is the "second installment" in the Deus Ex franchise.

    That's right. EVEN VARIETY WON'T ACKNOWLEDGE THE SHIT SHOW THAT WAS INVISIBLE WAR!

    Oh my. I hope they don't screw this up. I can't think of any actor who could pull off Adam Jensen.

    They should do a CGI movie like Resident Evil: Degeneration. That would be a lot less mainstream and probably not very profitable, but it would do the game more justice. I'd totally watch a movie like that!

    @SlightConfuse: I'm pretty sure Adam had a drink in the original trailer, and I'm sure there are enough couches for him to sit on...so Jon Hamm would probably work.

    @jakob187:

    I don't like Olyphant, he also doesn't really look like Jensen. Plus, he didn't voice Adam, that was Elias Toufexis.

    Oh well, I'll see how this unfolds. I'd prefer a CGI movie.

    Your probably right. It's a shame cause the story about augments and translation to robotics could be something great. But as always it will be a cash cow to fans who love the series and are gonna see the movie no matter what. Oh well, all we can do is hope. I mean the departed was a pretty good movie

    To be honest, while I think a movie set in the Deus Ex universe could be fantastic, I'd rather they do an original story, or maybe a side story where Jensen shows up for a minute.

    And so far as casting Jensen, the guy who voiced him does a lot of work on TV shows and stuff, so even though he doesn't look that much like Jensen, he's accustomed to acting in front of cameras.

    @Sackmanjones:

    I actually don't think most video game movies are directed at its fans. Otherwise they'd stick closer to the originals. I think movie producers are just looking for a cheap way to make a movie, so they take a video game's theme or plot, alter it so it appeals to the mainstream, then hope the name adds some extra viewers. I mean, just look what they did with the Max Payne movie. And while I actually enjoyed the first Resident Evil movie, it had almost nothing to do with the games.

    Oooh this could go very, very wrong but at the same time the Deus Ex series has some really good material to work with but I can't shake the feeling that they're going to make it more action orientated rather then focus it's attention on the story. Frankly, I'm surprised that they're not looking at the original DX since that story makes a lot of allusions to the past ten years or so which could be interesting (Grey Death=Avian Flu, Statue of Liberty Bombing=9/11 and so fourth.) I don't know, I generally think videogame movies are a terrible idea but who can say with this? Either way, colour me interested.

    @WilliamHenry: Tomb Raider, Doom, the Resident Evil movies, Max Payne, Prince of Persia...hell, even Uwe Boll's shitacular films!

    Seriously, almost every one is a cash grab/attempt to create cash cows. The only one in my opinion that wasn't a cash grab was Silent Hill...but that's because of Gans directing it. He's not the kind of guy that makes a movie to grab at money. He makes them because they are interesting. However, they are making a sequel....so yeah, probably going to be a cash grab attempt.

    Oh, that's too bad. I simply got my DVD of it from Amazon a few years ago... if you liked BotW you'll love Crying Freeman. The theme is totally different, even though it shares the same actor (Mark Dacascos), and it's less mainstream.

    Any half decent looking guy could pull off Adam Jensen. There's nothing to his character beyond a really forced gruff voice and sweet ass sunglasses. Actually, Keanu would be pretty spot on with his unemotional 'style' of acting.

    Worst case scenario we end up with a tv series called "Deus Ex: Human Resources" that takes a crack at The Office but from an enhanced-human perspective. Except it's CBS so I'd expect something more like JAG where it's something old people just keep on to have voices in their homes.

    It would also be extremely expensive. The Spirits Within basically bankrupted Squaresoft after it tanked at the box office.

    Well, I don't remember RE: Degeneration being successful at the box office, but they still made a sequel. So I guess CGI movies don't have to be that expensive if you know how to do them... I think The Spirits Within didn't only cost a lot to make, they also spend a lot of money for the marketing, which RE: Degeneration did not at all.

    Adam Jensen has a very specific look. The sharp, shaped beard that comes to a point, his hair and widow's peak. I identify Jensen more with those characteristics than I do his actual voice. I think if they're going to cast him, they have to nail his look more than his voice.
