I'm going to buy the Augmented Edition on PC. Should I buy it off Steam and get it for $53 or get it at Retail and get the pre-order bonus and a DVD so I don't have to download.
I know the game is Steamworks so it's Steam-Enabled either-way.
Game » consists of 17 releases. Released Aug 23, 2011

I'll go for retail since ordering it from the UK (another country for me) is way cheaper then getting it on steam. For some reason they don't seem to have the augmented edition though. I'll wait till that is there.
Steam costs less than retail, only asking for $53.99, but you don't get any exclusive pre-order content for the game. Instead, Steam gives you a free copy of the original Deus Ex. Also, since Steam is obviously a purely digital service, the premium content you're paying for in the Augmented Edition is wasted. What good is a digital artbook? I assume it's a folder full of jpegs?
Edit 8/19: Steam is now offering a ton of Deus Ex inspired hats and weapons for use in Team Fortress 2 if you preorder. You can read about all the items here. If you want the items w/o buying Deus Ex from Steam, you can buy the items by themselves in the TF2 item shop. A bundle for all the items sells for $20.
GameStop wants their full $59.99 for the PC Augmented Edition, but GameStop has a lot of exclusive pre-order content just for them: An extra mission, a grenade launcher, and remote mines.
Some other retailers, like Amazon, have seperate pre-order content: a double-barrel shotgun and a sniper rifle. Amazon is selling the game for $57.54.
Also, Amazon is giving away free digital copies of Deus Ex to customers who buy a new AMD Radeon 6000 series video card. Details on this promotion here.So if you were planning on upgrading your computer to play Deus Ex, you can kill two birds with one stone with this promo.
The cheapest method of buying the game right now is to buy the game from www.greenmangaming.com and use coupon code SUNNY-SAVER-20PEC. This lowers the price of the standard game to $34 and the Augmented Edition to $40. The tradeoff here is that this method of buying the game does NOT come with the pre-order content packs, a free copy of the original Deus Ex, or the Team Fortress 2 items. Since Deus Ex uses Steamworks, GreenManGaming will simply give you a code to redeem and the game will show up in your list of Steam games. The coupon is also good for other upcoming releases like Dead Island.

Amazon messed up earlier and put the augmented edition up for £25, I quickly un-preordered from GAME and got it from amazon. Hoping that they honour it :D
I'm going with Gamestop. I like having a physical copy of the game, and the bonus mission basically means more game for the same price.

The only really significant pre-order bonus is the extra mission you get from some retailers.
All the weapons and item stuff is kind of useless. You can get a lot of them in game anyway like the sniper rifle. Or they severely lack in utility like the double barreled shotgun.
I'd be willing to bet that the pre-order DLC will be available for purchase shortly after release, maybe for ~$5? If it isn't, if GameStop stubbornly sits on their exclusive mission, I'd also bet that PC players can find it on torrent sites.
I'm getting a retail special edition copy. I almost never buy special editions, and physical game boxes matter less and less to me as time goes on, but to me, the whole point of a special edition is to get physical bonuses. An art book doesn't seem very special if I have to look at it on my computer screen.
The TF2 items are throwing me for a loop... I was perfectly content with my Augmented PS3 copy up till now.

I will never get pre-order bonuses that make a game easier.
I like starting at rock bottom with bad weapons, who actually wants to start off with a fucking long range sniper rifle that could potentially ruin the experience.
I'm exactly the same.
Even though you can just drop the items or ignore using them it still just feels wrong them even being there.
Well, an actual artbook is certainly better than a digital artbook, but since I really don't care either way I got it on Steam. Because it was $45 instead of $60. Also: TF2.
Updated my earlier post to mention how Amazon is giving away free copies of Deus Ex to anyone who purchases an AMD Radeon 6000 card.
