Thought I'd start a topic where Giantbombers could post some of our Dirt 3 Youtube clips as otherwise they're bound to fall into obscurity on Youtube, this is one I uploaded from the second race in the first event it isn't much as it was more just a test of the feature and is just a close crash.

MOD EDIT: Some ground rules for this thread, before you post any videos:

The Ground Rules

  • The clips must be your own. No posting video clips from random Internet users, no matter how awesome it is, bro. Giant Bomb user content only!
  • Try to keep it to one video a post. We don't want to swarm a page with a glut of videos. In addition, it's highly preferred that you explain/talk about the video a little. Thirty seconds isn't always enough to truly understand what went down.
  • Any other threads with the intent to show off Dirt 3 clips will be locked. Keep it all in here.
  • We reserve the right to change our mind about allowing this. Also, if people don't listen to the ground rules, we might lock this thread.

OTHER MOD EDIT:

  • Deal with it :D

Looking forward to seeing some cool videos, espicially from Gymkhana haven't had a go at it myself yet though.

How it'd just be for Dirt 3 clips?

#4 Posted by XenoNick (1408 posts) -

Nice vid. What I love about DiRT. Just that feeling of "Oh shit don't crash. Don't flip.....fuck I survived"

My copy arrived this morning but haven't been able to dive in yet. Will do in a few hours when I get back home...so excited.

@McGray90: I remember a thread like this but for MvC3 (i think?) been locked because people will post random videos without any discusion value. But like I said I'm not sure, let see what the mods say.

I've heard that you can only upload 30 second clips to youtube, which sucks

#7 Posted by zudthespud (3281 posts) -

I was going to make this thread, nice one.

i don't think this is too spammy, as the Youtube feature is inherit to the game and as long as the videos relate to the game. I found it fun watching all the clips.

It's a good idea, wish Vinny & Drew could of uploaded his mid air spin.

After some thought, I think we can tentatively allow a thread like this. Allowing Giant Bomb users to show off moments they've experienced in Dirt 3 seems acceptable, and if we handle this right, it shouldn't fall under YouTube spam. It appears this may have some precedence, too, since Super Street Fighter IV has its own thread for users to post their fight videos.

However, just like that SSFIV thread, I am going to lay down some ground rules.

I'll edit these rules into the first post, so that everyone should know what we're expecting.

And finally, here's my first video clip:

It took me a while to get that bloody platinum medal in the first drift event, so once I earned it, I was satisfied to the point of grabbing a clip of the winning run. I cut it off early because I kept holding my drifts to the point of oblivion, and not more than a second after the video stops, I sailed into the woods.

I'm not looking forward to when these drift events start getting really hard.

I'm playing to complete the dirt tour and to get ready for online. I'm playing on difficulty 4 and I'm happy with a 3rd place.

SOme of the descriptors you can add to the videos are hilarious, I might just use HOONED IT on every video now.
#15 Posted by XenoNick (1408 posts) -

Here's my first clip. Was just messing with the uploader. Nothing major.  2500-ish point drift in slo-mo.

Got a couple more, just crashes really in the 1995 Subaru, the first I just clipped the little cliff thing and couldn't get away from it and ended up rolling. In the second I tried to be a bit greedy and cut the long corner but couldn't see when I was about to reach the road in the cockpit cam and just took off, very kind of the tree to stop me though.

#17 Posted by Hero_Swe (1135 posts) -

Not sure I like this alot more arcadier crash system. I preferred the "Crash too hard and you're out" system.
#18 Posted by McGray90 (55 posts) -
@Hero_Swe: Don't worry it's still like that, the crash in that second video I posted totalled the car.

This is just from me doing a Rally Race, second Season bottom left triangle first rally. Was driving, and I hit a divot in the road, sending me into a barrel roll then ended in me in a catwalk and then cleanly driving away. Felt awesome, and I love how this game makes you feel amazing when you pull off cool stuff.

#20 Posted by Grilledcheez (3947 posts) -
@DauntlessFinch: That's awesome! Can't wait till my copy comes Thursday.
#21 Posted by mfpantst (2574 posts) -

I can't believe none of you have tried perfect gymkana moves yet.  Here's my perfect slide under the tractor trailers in the dc course:

Enjoy- I might just spend my time making perfect gymkana videos...
#22 Posted by DauntlessFinch (55 posts) -

Here are a couple more I just did. Same challenge as my previous post, but the second race. Both the videos take place in the same race, and they both are those HOLY SHIT THIS IS GOING BAD, oh I got this nvm. Again, I just love how amazing this game makes you feel when something cool happens. First time I've been interested in the video stuff in a game for sure.

Things got a little crazy when I was in a buggy race.

I was hoping to jump over the leader for style points, and...well, that didn't quite work out as planned. At least I got past him shortly after my little ride.

So this was my "If in doubt, flat out" moment of yesterday, I messed up bad and just kept my foot down. Worked out pretty well I think. I'm not having much luck with the snow...

@zudthespud: Yard Sale!! Great crash n burn dude!
#26 Posted by McGray90 (55 posts) -

Got a nice little combo in Gymkhana, unfortunately blew it after the video ends though :/

Also the old mini cooper is awesome :D

#27 Posted by mfpantst (2574 posts) -
@McGray90: Cool.  Here's my second outting at a cool trick:

So, I suppose at some point the technicals of building the 'perfect' run will come up (or not).  Anyways, in the DC compound that unlocks, it's basically a free mode.  Unlimited time, unlimited replays.  The only thing that is an issue is damage, but if you get too damaged and too far past the point of replaying you can retire and restart.  And, just to be clear, the 9 seconds above took me literally 30 minutes to do, with probably greater than 50 restarts along the way.  It's cool though because the restarts are seamless in the actual video, so it looks like I did this perfect ramp fake fail.  Which I think is cool.  Anyone else working on some neat stunts they want to share?
#28 Posted by RiotBananas (3600 posts) -

Yeah here's my first video, I'm probably going to use Fraps to record my replays from now on.
#29 Posted by mfpantst (2574 posts) -
@RiotBananas: Nice- I will say that their built in recording system, while limited to just 30 seconds at a time, does a really great job of seamlessly integrating the flashback system.  Which with Fraps i'm guessing you'd have to go manually piece together.  It's like live video editing- which is sweet.
#30 Posted by RiotBananas (3600 posts) -
@mfpantst: Well the integration of the flashbacks happens in the replay itself not just the youtube recording, so when I fraps them I'll just record the replay. I can mess with playback speed and stuff then.
#31 Posted by mfpantst (2574 posts) -
@RiotBananas: That shouldn't have, but did just blow my mind.  Well Played
#32 Posted by H7O (36 posts) -
@McGray90:
looks nice, does it allow you to upload the full race?
#33 Posted by RiotBananas (3600 posts) -

A full rally, the video got kinda shitty. Shame I couldn't upload the original, perfect 4gb file.
#34 Posted by DauntlessFinch (55 posts) -

Got a couple more from my last post. Check out that channel, I've got almost 20 uploads from DiRT 3 at this point.

This was just something funny that happened during a buggy race. I got a computer stuck on me, and continued driving until he fell off and wrecked his buggy.

This was from a Head to Head final, love this track. Really shows how great snow looks, as well as the sense of speed.
#35 Posted by sleeprockss (200 posts) -

Heres a video of me HOONING it out in the rain!

#36 Posted by McGray90 (55 posts) -
@H7O: Nah unfortunately it only lets you record 30 seconds worth of video

My attempt at a Scandinavian Flick. (PC version btw)

@fistfulofmetal: purty!
#39 Posted by CrazyBagMan (842 posts) -

Was just playing around in the free area and this happened. I thought it was kinda cool.

#40 Posted by MordeaniisChaos (5730 posts) -

I had a video of me doing a REALLY clean barrel roll but it had some issues and didn't go through right. That was at a friends, when I get my copy I'll totally throw a clip of me beign awful :D

#41 Posted by NickL (2246 posts) -

I can already tell that it is going to be awesome watching videos of peoples perfect gymkhana runs

#42 Posted by mfpantst (2574 posts) -

This is what happens when you drunk drive in dirt 3 last night:

Kinda neat- sorry about the windshield.  My drunk self thought first person view was better....
#43 Posted by 234r2we232 (3181 posts) -

Still kinda sucks you can't save replays for online games :(

#44 Posted by Xyber (292 posts) -

This isn't recorded with the built in thingy because 30 seconds really isn't enough. This is my best run so far in Gymkhana with all assists off.  One bump in the wall, I got greedy. :(

Here's the Gymkhana video I made, not a youtube clip jus capped from my PC.
#46 Posted by Yanngc33 (4496 posts) -
@sofacitysweetheart: DUDE! that was so intense!
#47 Posted by KarlPilkington (2728 posts) -

I nearly kill a bunch of people.

And I do a perfect wall spin in a Mini.

#48 Posted by ZimboDK (848 posts) -

I'm definitely not using the built in replay function anymore, Fraps from now on.

I did get a good (if short) combo going yesterday: Smash to Drift to Donut:

#49 Edited by 234r2we232 (3181 posts) -
@Yanngc33: And I totally posted it on YouTube dude!

A perfect 180, but the mission didn't unlock :(
