Mickey to Donald: Magical Adventure 3 (the former sub-title translated to "Mickey & Donald") is a side-scrolling platformer developed and published by Capcom for the Super Famicom exclusively in Japan on December 8, 1995.

The sequel to The Great Circus Mystery Starring Mickey & Minnie (and the third and final game in Disney's "Magical Quest" trilogy), Magical Adventure 3 follows Disney mascots Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck as they traverse through Storybook Land to rescue Donald's duckling nephews Huey, Dewey, and Louie from the evil King Pete.

Along with a new fantasy setting, the game revamps both the two-player co-operative and magical costume mechanics by having each costume work differently for each playable character. In addition, players can use their costume's powers for the other player's benefit (for example, Mickey can stand on Donald's barrel armor to float above water).

The game was later ported to the Game Boy Advance and released in Japan on November 21, 2003. It later received a translated release in North America (on March 19, 2004) and Europe (on June 14, 2005) as Disney's Magical Quest 3 Starring Mickey & Donald.

    Gameplay

The game features a mix of platforming and action-adventure and like its predecessors the player is aided by different power-ups in the form of clothing. One of the changes from The Great Circus Mystery Starring Mickey and Minnie Mouse is that this time the clothes work differently for each character instead of just being an aesthetic change. For example the knight costume gives Mickey a lance with a spring-loaded boxing glove that can attack in different directions and a shield, but the armor is too heavy and will sink in water. The same costume gives Donald a hammer that attacks in an arc and barrel armor that lets him hide or roll over, and this barrel armor also floats in water.

    Costumes

    • Knight: The knight's costume is used mainly for offense and defense. Mickey is given a set of silvery metal armor with a spring-loaded boxing glove and a shield. Donald is given a barrel and a saucepan with a mallet.
      • Mickey's Armor: Mickey can attack in four different directions, can only block attacks from the front and does not float in water
      • Donald's Armor: Donald can only attack directly in front of himself, blocks attacks from front and back, and can float in water.
    • Climber: The climbing gear is used for scaling up trees and columns, and can be used to zipline across chains, ropes and vines. There is no difference between the two characters' uses of this costume.
    • Magician: The magician's costume is used for both attack and exploration. It is able to neutralize enemy attacks and can transform inanimate objects into different forms.
      • Mickey's Magic: Mickey is able to attack more quickly, but his attacks are weaker.
      • Donald's Magic: Donald's attacks are stronger, but do not conjure as quickly as Mickey's.

    Items

    • Gold Blocks: Generic blocks that can be picked up and thrown.
    • Exploding Blocks: Gold blocks with stars on them. Then struck with another block, they will set of a chain reaction to consecutively pop all of the boxes that they are touching.
    • Giant Gold Block: Large gold blocks that have Mickey or Donald's faces on them. They can be opened by pulling on their chains or by attacking them. They usually hold some kind of treasure inside.
    • Gold Coins: Used as currency to shop in the general stores.
    • Apples: The number of apples collected in a level is converted into coins when the level is completed.
    • Magic Cards: Used to fuel the powers of the magician costume.
    • Small Hearts: Small, red hearts that restore one point of health to whoever collects them.
    • Big Hearts: Large, deep red hearts that restore full health and grant one additional heart container to whoever collects them.
    • Mickey/Donald Dolls: Will grant an extra life.

    Stages

    • Stage 1 - The Harvest Fair: Mickey and Donald's magical quest begins in a town that is holding its harvest festival. When they arrive, the town has already been taken over by Pete's minions. In order to progress, they will have to drive the villains out of town and find the first of Donald's missing nephews.
    • Stage 2 - Fungi Forest: Beyond the village lies the forest of gigantic mushrooms. There, Mickey and Donald have to navigate through the forest and across the lake, then finally to the inside of a hollow tree in order to find Donald's second nephew.
    • Stage 3 - Sandy Mountain: When they reach the mountain, Mickey and Donald are met by a traveling magician who tells them that Donald's last nephew has ran out to the mountain with his magic clothes. When they find the last duckling, they send him back to the magician and climb the rest of the way up the mountain. At the top, they are met with a sudden surprise.
    • Stage 4 - The Airship: Pete's airship suddenly attacks Mickey and Donald, who infiltrate aboard and fight their way past the crew. If the two stowaways can survive the ride, they will be one step closer to finishing their quest.
    • Stage 5 - Shell Ocean: Unfortunately, Mickey and Donald send the airship crash landing into the ocean. After they bail out, they find themselves deep below the surface, and must find pockets of air to traverse the undersea world, then through a gigantic seashell.
    • Stage 6 - Snowflake Mountain: After escaping from the ocean, the two find themselves in a snowy mountain. The climb to the top of the mountain is treacherous. But, the sight of King Pete's castle looming in the background keeps Mickey and Donald going to the top.
    • Stage 7 - King Pete's Palace: When they reach the final stage, Mickey and Donald are faced with almost every enemy and obstacle that they have faced before, along with some new ones. They must make their way to the throne room to confront King Pete and defeat him once and for all.

    Bosses

    • Captain Turkey: A high-ranking member of the army that has taken over the village in the first level. He attacks by charging forward or shooting his feathers in an outward radius. His helmet keeps him from being jumped on, but he wears little other armor, making him vulnerable to having blocks thrown at him.
    • General Hog: The leader of Pete's minions in the first level. He is first seen attacking from inside of a giant squash that is carried by his crow minions. From there, he attacks by swooping across the ground and sending more minions to attack. When he has taken enough damage, the crows drop him, breaking his squash and forcing him to hop around on his curly tail.
    • Lady Moth: She waits in the Fungi Forest for Mickey and Donald. When they enter her arena, she attacks by swooping from left to right and spreading poisonous spores around. Her defenses are not very strong, and she can be defeated by basic attacks.
    • Angry Flower: The lord of the Fungi Forest. He is nearly stationary in the middle of the screen, but is tricky to reach, as there is almost no solid ground to stand on. As well as swaying back and forth, he will try to attack by spewing spores.
    • Cattle Cadaver: A skeletal bull who has been chasing after one of Donald's nephews in stage 3. He attacks Mickey and Donald upon finding them by throwing his horns and his own head at them.
    • Sandworm: A large, carnivorous predator in the desert. It mostly stays beneath the sands, but will lung out to bite, sting and spew boulders. The only way to defeat it is to send its own boulders back at it.
    • Big Bad Wolf: Sporting spiked armor, he is invulnerable to conventional attacks. The only thing to do against him is to attack him with his own cannons.
    • Captain Peg-Hook: The captain of the airship. He is none too happy with the arrival of Mickey and Donald stowing away on his ship. To show them what he does to intruders, he attacks with flying kicks, slashes from his hook and shots from his pistols. Occasionally, he will even turn the room to send Mickey and Donald into the spiked walls.
    • Octopus: A titanic sea monster who attacks those who invade his territory. The second that he notices Mickey and Donald, he starts to attack by thrashing his tentacles, only making himself vulnerable when he surfaces.
    • Yeti: Guards the top of Snowflake Mountain. First seen flying in from the top of the screen by spinning his chains like a propeller. Primarily attacks with his chains, but will also blow out icy winds from his mouth to turn Mickey and Donald into snowmen.
    • Evil Wizard: A wizard under Pete's employ. He is encountered in his lab, where he will fight with his diabolical magic. He can create trails of fire, and triple his attack power by making two copies of himself.
    • King Pete: The final boss. At first, he fights by creating columns to drop on Mickey and Donald, and by conjuring fiery minions to attack. Once he has lost enough health, he will switch his tactics and don a knight's costume of his own.
