Dungeons of Dredmor
Game » consists of 2 releases. Released Jul 13, 2011
Explore the dangerous diggle-infested dungeons of Lord Dredmor in this comical, graphical roguelike RPG. Just don't smell of fear and lutefisk.
Fans of roguelikes - dont bother
@Br3adfan: No matter how many totally random videos you post wont change the fact that there are a dozen better roguelikes that cost no money.
Seems like a lot of white noise kids think they should comment on things they know nothing about. Stay classy.
I can't help but feel a slight twinge of elitism coming across here. Or is that just me reading into comments? Tone's a tricky thing online.
Anyway, I've never played a game like this before and so entered completely fresh faced and doe eyed. I'm really enjoying it. Yeah I wish the art style looked better and the music improved but that's the only gripes I have.
I'm sure there are some better games out their for free but I feel fine going through the hassle of finding my old steam password just to try it out for a cheap price. I would totally recommend it to people who haven't tried a "Rougelike" like me and in some cases I already have.
I've had some good fun with this game so far, and this is coming from a man that knows how to...
...in Nethack.
That said, I don't play roguelikes to do things like that, I play it for the experience it brings on it's own merit, which has helped enjoy little games like this. Is this a great roguelike? Eff no, I can't even throw that piece of tin I mined at an enemy! But can you have fun with it? Sure, just don't expect Slash'EM.
I have never played a roguelike, the closest I got was hearing friends talk about MUD, which I would call a relative to the genre. This game has me interested in trying it out as it seems accessible, witty, and fun. Wouldn't you call that a successful product? After seeing that video Dave posted, I kind of feel like Dungeons of Dredmor is a roguelike-lite. An introduction to the genre.

I never played any Rougelike games before, this got me interested. Seemed like a fun way into that genre. If you don't like the game don't fucking play it, it's pretty simple.

I think you are assuming too much good will from Internet people. If they have an opinion, they have to make it known.
PS: I just went and bought the game. I'll enjoy it, so feel free to flame me as you want, Phonics.
guys i had never heard of a rogulike before but picked up Dungeons of Dredmor and its awesome XD!!!! I tried to play some of the other ones linked but there too hard and how can you understand that ascii??? >:{
i think the sequel to Dungeons of Dredmor should be more real time and have more of a story and voice acting like Dragon Age or Mass Effect.
I hope Bioware starts making rogulikes XD

Yes! Maybe even some party members and dialog. I want to tame a dragon to cruise with!
For what it is I found it pretty entertaining and I really like the concept of making a rogue-like more accessible to the masses because they're are really fun albeit a bit hard to look at and play (interface wise). The art-style okay. It's pretty rough in a lot of spots and I would prefer some character customisation and yeah, the music can really get repetitive after a few hours. Not a bad little title for five quid though. It's rough around the edges but there's really good potential in there.

There are better roguelikes that are totally free, but not everyone has a taste for ASCII graphics or learning a dozen or more keyboard shortcuts.
If nothing else this succeeds in being more accessible than the ADOMs or Nethacks of the world. But I think it's perfectly decent game, especially for only $5.
Yeah, I think that hardcore roguelike players might be bored by it, but if you are interested in the genre, it is a good introduction. By the way, I would love to hear some suggestions for good roguelikes out there. I've played NetHack and really liked that, but I would be down to try some other stuff.
The first part would take away a major component of what makes a roguelike. I'm also not sure if voice-acting would be really worth having here, it'd probably come off as tacky and clunky, depending on if they pull it off or not of course.guys i had never heard of a rogulike before but picked up Dungeons of Dredmor and its awesome XD!!!! This game looks really charming and I stand by my original sentiment: A great introduction to roguelikes.
I like the idea of Roguelikes so I might have to try a lot of the games listed in this thread. After an hour or so it's easy to ignore that the game doesn't have in your face graphics.
Sadly the closest to a Roguelike I've ever played to completion is Baroque on PS2.
I really like the game. I turned off the music and it's a great game to play while listening to podcasts or personal music. It's turn based so I can survive not paying attention to it and entering Wikipedia for a while. If the game is too easy just use the randomized skills selection to get some gimped builds that will allow you to wave your manly appendages.
@Death_Burnout: If by fun and quirky you mean boring and shallow you got it buddy. I guess this game is exciting if you think Mass Effect is the epitome of RPG's.I love Mass Effect and think it's a great blend of RPG and 3rd Person shooter.
I had to post that.
