Not what I expected
From being a fan of Final Fantasy Tactics and Front Mission, I got this game expecting a similar style of gameplay in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms setting. Unfortunately, this game is much more like a puzzle game than a tactical RPG. Your units have different abilities that can activate when certain positions occur on the board. If you chain these together, you can do a "tactical combo" that leads to a large amount of damage depending on how long the chain is. This type of gameplay is interesting, but not anything like that of the other mainstream games with "tactics" in their names.
The other problem with this game is the difficulty. It is extremely difficult and unforgiving. Losing even a couple of units in a battle cripples you and the computer player is good at setting up combos. I found it a struggle to beat even the first scenario.
I don't think that this is a terrible game, and someone who enjoys planning a great deal and is willing to overcome the difficulty curve will probably find some fun in beating the challenges. Unfortunately for me, I prefer the more traditional tactical RPGs.
