Eternal Champions
Street Fighter/Mortal Kombat wanna be
This was a very mediocre and boring game that tried to combine Street Fighter (flat 2D animated models) with Mortal Kombat (finishing death moves called "overkills")... and failed.
Graphics, Controls and Music
The 16-bit Genesis didn't do the game any favors, the animation wasn't very good when compared to other fighting games of the time, it was lacking in game play, not that many moves, and character movement were very limited to 2 frames or less.
The music was nothing special, it sounded like it came from an 80s musical keyboard, and they obviously spent more time on the finishing death moves than on the game itself...
A Sequel that doesn't improve Anything
They tried again with a semi-sequel, Eternal Champions: Challenge from the Dark Side and a Sega DC version... but there was nothing really different about it from the first one, they only added in more characters, special intros and endings, but that's it. Like with Fighting Vipers, there was nothing really great or different about either game, they offered nothing new. There are just far better fighting games out there than Eternal Champions.
Characters
Xavier Pendragon was the only character I somewhat liked. His costume, like the others, look as if they came from Malibu, Valiant, Image or WildStorm comics and that's not a compliment. Those comic book companies had artist that were known for coming up with the most idiotic costume designs ever. No thought was put into them and they all end up being laughable and forgettable.
I didn't care for Shadow that much, her AI in both games is terrible, she seems to get "special" treatment over the other characters (she's the only one who gets a change of wardrobe in-between games), and she has little to no personality whatsoever (at least in the games and the comics). Most of the time she just acts like your stereotypical serious business tsundere ninja lady. It's the same thing with Morrigan in Darkstalkers and Mai in Fatal Fury... there the hot chick and nothing more.
