A quirky platformer with nothing unsettling at all going on

Eversion is an indie platformer that was originally released for free online, and later released via Steam, with updated graphics, additional secrets, and better graphics. The game starts off very similar to the original Super Mario games, with the player jumping over blocks and defeating enemies by stomping on their heads. It is undeniably cheerful, with bright colors and happy color designs. Indeed, like Braid, it seems to wear its lineage proudly, rather than cover it up.

What a cute game! I wonder what that warning in the opening was about.

Things start to get more unique with the game's eversion power. By hitting a button in certain spots in the level, it will change certain aspects of the game. Clouds become solid and allow you to jump on them, trees shrink to allow you past, and so on. These changes to the levels create some very creative design moments, and as the levels proceed you will be left scratching your head several times. In fact, to collect everything you can, you'll have to keep going back through levels again and again with a complete mastery of the eversion power.

Ultimately, I can't give too much information on the way the game proceeds without spoiling a lot of the surprise, which is arguably where the game is strongest. Suffice to say, it goes down some very interesting roads. Despite its deceptively simple premise, it quickly sets itself apart from its peers.

The game is not perfect. Its graphics are fairly simplistic, and the sound design, while fun, is limited . You may find songs becoming repetitive as you play. The difficulty curve also ramps up wildly after the first couple levels, and rapidly becomes unforgiving. It gets to the point of frustration at certain points. It also lacks certain options that you might expect games to have, such as volume levels. It doesn't do the best job of explaining itself, as I couldn't figure out what using your everse power meant or how to do it, and ended up having to look it up online. However, once you get past these nagging issues, you will find a very neat little game with a lot of interesting ideas.

It will likely only last you a couple hours, give or take, depending on your skill level. However, at five dollars on steam, it's a pretty good deal. If you're still unsure, the original version without the upgrades is still available to download for free!

This is not what it looks like 0

Originally Eversion was a freeware PC game. It has received a graphical overhaul, new secrets and a price tag on it's Steam version. Which I had chance of playing recently. I would recommended playing the game without reading a single review. This is because of the layer mechanism that is way cooler without any knowledge of it. Well too late now.  Start with this.. Eversion is a traditional 2D platform/puzzle game. Only difference is that it comes with a twist. Protagonist is a flower looking ch...

Eversion is a platformer in the vein of Super Mario Bros. (to the point that the game files call the enemies "goombas", and an achievement makes reference to the first SMB). On the subject of Achievements, those, leaderboards for a "time attack" mode, and graphical improvements are what you're actually paying for in this Steam release; the developer, Zaratustra Productions, also has a freeware version available at their site, zarat.us/tra.According to the manual, you are Zee Tee, a brave -a-s-t-...
